Green is a color that can be associated with envy. That emotion is not exactly what is evoked by this car. While it is green, this 1979 Chevy Malibu Classic, is not exactly enviable or really even envied. The miles aren’t listed. However, for $1,000 you can purchase this car. It is located in Pocomoke Maryland. You can view the listing on Craigslist.
While trying to research this car, I realized that they are quite the complex machine. It could have been built in Mexico or Missouri. At least they both start with an M, right? It could have a 2 barrel 267 or a 4 barrel 305 powering it. It does have a column shift automatic transmission. That is evident in the pictures. There is no indication it runs and it has been sitting for over ten years.
It has a full vinyl top. While this was a feature these cars had, it is hard to determine if it was original like that or not. Many Malibu’s of this time period had half vinyl tops, but it is hard to know how many were produced and how many were half and full. Trying to determine this specifically though might not be on the top or your priority list.
One thing is for sure. It is missing a rear window. That will need to be replaced. For the time being, it has a tarp over it and the interior seems to be in decent condition. It also has a clean title which should make all of the paperwork to own it much easier. All the other mysteries will be revealed if you arrange to see the car and decipher the VIN or contact the person listing it.
Gone.
For a while there some of the authors were posting links to an archive in case a CL ad was deleted, it would be nice if that would start up again.

Not worth much unless you turn into a drag car.
I don’t see a shifter anywhere.
Does anybody else?
$1000 you gotta be kidding
Sorry..I would turn it down if you Offered to give it away
If you enlarge the interior pic, you’ll notice a clutch pedal. I had an 80 that was a stick shift, ultra rare cars indeed
According to the original brochure, manual Malibus had floor shifts. Are you sure that’s not the parking brake?
Gotta love it when they post pictures that don’t include the normal places for rust.
I bought a 79 Malibu wagon that was headed to the junkyard with a bad eng and tranny. Dropped in a 300 hp 350/ 350 trans, ran that car everyday and put 100,000 miles on it. Terrific. Got rid of it when the back of the frame rotted out. One of the best cars I ever owned. On its second life, no less!!!!
“The interior seems to be in decent shape.” Shirley, you can’t be serious!! I’m a die-hard Chevy guy, but this old ‘Bu is worth scrap value. It looks like it’s grown roots into the ground.
This one looks (and probably SMELLS) like it has a chalk outline of at least one body on the backseat.
Mine a ’78 was built in baltimore Maryland .As to the rear window back in the ’80s mine developed a leak . Brought it to safelight and the Tec said that at the time the rear window was $500.00 to replace it shattered so he just resealed it .
Must be more expensive now
$1000?? Someone is stoned.
LOL I am, and I am not bidding on this POS.
It’s been pranged in the front judging from the blue header panel just before the hood.
That’s not so bad, but the damp and moldy looking interior is a turn off
I had a 78′ and loved it. I built it because it was cheap and very light considering it was a full frame car. I think the title weight was around 3400lbs. I added a few fiberglass parts to lighten it up a bit and dropped a 40 over 350 in it. Built it up a bit and had it in the low 12 second range. Fun car and sure miss it.
