Possibly A Lloyd?

Shipping Container Sighting

From Dean C – This car sits on top of a shipping container near my work. I can’t get very close to it while on duty. I have always liked the small oddball cars and have gotten familiar with a lot of them. This one has had me stumped for almost a year. Recently I was looking at an ’07 issue of Hotrod magazine and there was a picture of an incomplete project, a Lloyd. The only recognizable body part was the rear quarter. I guess these were German. I would have thought English. Anyhow I just wanted to see if you could confirm my suspicions that it’s a Lloyd.

So guys, do you think Dean’s find is a Lloyd or is it something else? Be sure to leave your response in the comments below!

Looks almost too large for a Lloyd.

A little fuzzy, but it appears to be a late 50’s Lloyd Alexander TS Kombi. I believe made by Borgward. It was powered by a 600cc opposed 2 cycle twin.

It is a Lloyd Kombi…1959 or so. 2 cylinder, 4 stroke, air cooled and front wheel drive

I use to ride to high school in the “coupe” version of a Lloyd. I would say for sure this is a Lloyd. That front end is unmistakeable. Defintiely NOT a Humber (Humber was a big car), Hillman, and even more definitely not a Hillman Husky . . . ‘cuz a Hillman Husky is on my Bucket List, and I can recognize those from many miles away. I was always amused that my high school buddy’s parents bought him this, brand new, for a high school car. Oh well, beat walking. That was the early 60’s, and every one and their brother was importing cars: Borgward, Goliath, Lloyd, NSU. Opel, Austin, Morris Minor . . . . even some strange car called a Volkswagen.

I don’t see the rear fender line continuing past the B pillar on the car atop the storage container. Both the Hillman Husky and Lloyd Kombi show distinct crowns of their rear fenders running all the way to the back tailgate. The Lloyd looks like its tail lights came from a 46-48 Lincoln or Chrysler.

It’s definitely a Lloyd Alexander Kombi. I have a TS Sedan. Lloyds are well built, fun little cars. Parts are available from the German club. Someone needs to save this car!
