What’s in Rene’s Barn?

IMG_0048

Rene H has been following Barn Finds for a while now and has decided that it’s time for us to guess what he has in his garage. He is in the process of moving into a new home, so he has thinned out his herd to two classics and a newer daily driver. We will give you one hint, he lives in Germany. We want to thank Rene for sharing his collection with us and we wish him luck with the move!

My instinctive guess was Borgward, but a Google Image search didn’t seem to match too well.

But I’m gonna go with Bobinott on the center one, being a Borgward Isabella.

The light blue one in the back with the red top looks like a VW-Rometsch Coupe, circa 1959.

The light blue one is a VW-Rometsch Lawrence Coupe (lots of photo evidence on Google). I first thought the ivory and red one would be one too, but the trunk doesn’t look exactly like it – it looks more like a front engined car. I thought it could be a Simca Grand Carrossier series car,
but it doesn’t fit completely either… I think the ivory car with the red roof is a Fiat 1200TV…
… here is a link .. Rene’s Fiat story was published in 2010…. what a great car and what passion Rene van H. has!

Looks like a 59-61 Fiat 1200 TV Convertible, and a Fiat 600 Viotti Bodied Coupe.

Middle pale yellow car is a 1958 Fiat 1200TV. I own the same car!

Blue car next to wall: Agree with manta73wi it’s a VW-Rometsch

Beige car in the middle: a Skoda Felicia Cabriolet, early 1960s.

    Silver-gray car in foreground: Jaguar F-Type, 2013-2014

The middle one’s definitely a Borward – my first car was an Isabella TS sedan, and a friend has 4 coupes – rear end entirely wrong for a BW.

    OOPS – I meant NOT a BW –

The new car is a 2012+ VW Passat (I’m 87.874% certain of this), but the older models have me stumped. For the middle one I was thinking maybe a Wartburg 311, but it was never sold in convertible form. I even looked at Borgwards, Lloyds and Hansas but found nothing with that unique rectangular trunk lid. Nor did any of the four rings of Auto Union (Audi, Horch, DKW, Wanderer) yield any results. The blue car looks like it’s rear engined, so if I had to guess I would say it’s either an NSU Sport Prinz or Wankel Spyder.

Blue car I am guessing early NSU Sport Prinz or Wankel Spyder, maybe a DKW Sp100.
Middle car a Fiat or Simca, possibly Lancia, which I don’t know too well.
    Closest one is a 21st Century throw-away Econo-box that I don’t care to know.

I’d go with Guilietta for the centre. Not a Lancia, no external hinges. Not a Borgward (either of the other two) as they have easily identifiable lamps, on top of the wings at front)
    Over to you guys..!

I am seeing a late 50’s Simca, and something like a Lancia convertible in the foreground?

My instant thought was Borgward Isabella too.

SwissDan has the answer. A quick search will show that two are:
    VW-Rometsch
    Fiat 1200TV
Simca Aronde Oceane or Plein Ciel it is not. How do I know this?
I am the founder of Simca Club UK (1981) and since 1968 in other guises.

What the dark car in the foreground is I have no idea.

This has been a really interesting question.
Keep up the good work, all of you enthusiasts.
    All the best,

I recently purchased a 1958 Simca Vedette. Is there a Simca club in the U.S?

Hi James & z1rider, good to see there is still Simca interest in the States.
We often had contact with Jim Conrady, he was Simca involved for many years, and if anyone has contact with him please convey our Best to him.
Sorry if this is going off the article on this forum.
For Simca enthusiasts, here’s my Clubs page.
