1948 Buick Special: 67 Years Of Originality

1948 Buick Special

Finding a 30 year old car that is still original is a challenge, but finding one that is twice as old in original condition is quite rare. This Buick Special two door certainly doesn’t look 67 years old, but it has somehow survived all these years without being restored or hot rodded. The seller claims it has been garaged for the past 30 years, which would help explain of how it has survived so well. Hopefully someone will pick it up soon and take actions to preserve it before rust takes over. With many turned into hot rods and even more left to simply rust away, there can’t be many left in this kind of condition. This one has a few problem, like rust in the quarters, some damaged glass, and a stuck motor, but these things can hopefully be rectified without damaging the car’s originality. Find it here on eBay in Aberdeen, South Dakota with a BIN of $5,500.

I feel that a car has to run and drive before it can be deemed to have survived. This one is in danger and in need of rescue. Until it runs and drives it isn’t yet a survivor.

I would get it running and driving safe and drive it like that. There only original once!!! I love it. I hate when people hot rod cars.

That’s not a bad deal. It’s a pretty cool car to boot. Shine it up and drive it. The stove bolt six is a simple engine to work on. Shouldn’t take much to get it going

That would have a straight eight in it not a six, the stove bolt was only in Chevys

This car is the perfect candidate for restoration to original specs. That’s what I would do with it.

Stuck engines don’t scare me. Usually it’s a piston in an open cylinder (open valve). Some good ‘weasel pee’ through the spark plug hole usually does the trick. This car has got a lot more surface rust than my ’49 Chev had but the body otherwise looks pretty good. Take lots of time to get the engine loosened up, tune it up and drive it. Enjoy…

That’s what I use. Give it long enough and it will work on almost anything.
