1965 Mustang Convertible: Summer Fun

1965 Mustang Convertible

It finally feels like summer here in Boise, which for us means spirited evening drives in our classic cars! All winter we look forward to these early days of summer, when the weather is warm enough to put the top down, but not so hot as to overheat the car or ourselves. When I saw this ’65 Mustang Convertible here on eBay, first I thought about how much work it is going to need, but then I thought about all the drop top fun I could have in it! The combination of a 289 V8, 4-speed, and a convertible roof could make this Mustang a hoot for those summer drives! While it will need a new interior, some rust repair, and possibly an engine rebuild, remember this is possibly one of the easiest cars to restore. You can get every nut and bolt for these, with most parts being quite affordable! So can you imagine putting this pony through its paces with the top down on a beautiful summer’s day?

It should be there now, but you might need to refresh the page.

“Big Lou” the seller has a low feedback rating
And only 8 transactions. Not good. But….
This car is cool and not that bad. I like it and am gonna watch it.

Clear signs of an old repaint over bubbling bondo warrant a close look under the car for probable structural issues. At 6k+ I think someone will be in for a reality slap. These can be successfully saved with great parts availability, but you need to have the skills to DIY if you don’t want to get buried in it. I’m coming to the end of restoring a nearly identical one of these and paid less than 1/2 the money to start. Had I not been able to do it myself it would have made little sense to take it on. They are great fun to drive when done right!

Bid to over $6K after only about a day……someone will probably buy it even with the negative feedback the seller got for failing to disclose that the “frame is very rusted not safe”, plus what might be auto transmission problems, on a Chevelle he sold a while ago, according to the winning bidder.

Possible rust problems in this Mustang weren’t addressed with all those similar small photos taken standing next to the car, but with none of the underside. And you don’t want to buy this car out of New York without that information, as ajd350 says from experience—good advice.

The only way a mustang convertible like that with a matching A code 4 speed drivetrain is only worth 8500 buck is if the torque boxes and frame are complete swiss cheese.

Judging by the condition of the interior, this was stored outdoors with a leaky convertible top. Floors and chassis are most likely toast.

WARNING! When buying a Mustang on eBay you need to inspect the car yourself or have a trusted person do it. There are just to many trouble rust areas on the these to buy site unseen. So don’t let your heart do the bidding. My group: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/classicmustang/info
