1966 Mercury Cyclones: Cheap Muscle Cars

1966 Mercury Cyclones

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

While I have always wanted a Road Runner, there is another muscle car I wouldn’t mind having. The Mercury Cyclone probably isn’t at the top of the list for many muscle car collectors and you certainly can’t compare it to a Road Runner, but I have always thought these are great looking machines with potential. While the Cyclone was more a visual package and less a full out performance upgrade, in ’66 the S-Code 390 was added to the options list, which gave the Cyclone power to match its looks. This somewhat rough looking pair of ’66 Cyclones are being offered as a package deal for $7,250. The seller doesn’t offer much information, but they do state that at least one of the cars has the S-Code engine and one currently runs. They also claim to have a lot of extra parts, so perhaps both cars could be turned into drivers without much work. While these aren’t particularly valuable, if both cars can be saved, it seems like a decent deal. You can find the pair here on HaggleMe in Michigan. Thanks goes to Mark H for the tip!

I wish these were close to me. Yeah they are rough but I have always liked these. With a pi and a reasonable price negotiation me being a do it yourself kinda of guy I think I could make a decent driver out of one and maybe maker and old school altered wheel base car out of the other one. Both street legal though. I think it would be sweet to drive an awb car on the street. Blown or injected 427 4speed 9inch fenderwell headers and a wild paint scheme. I love it. Cops would too. Lol.

Considering a lot of the other deals we run across, this doesn’t sound to bad. Two cars, two titles, one running, extra parts. As Tim the Toolman Taylor would say: “Aw,Aw,Aw.

The S code 390 was not a separate option – it was only available as part of the Cyclone GT package. The standard Cyclone could be ordered with a 390 2 bbl, but not the S code engine.

I had one of these back in the 70’s, one fast ride…. It would literally burn the back tires off the rims if you didn’t let up on take off, they have a nice interior package to… Brings back some good memories for me, bought it for $500 cash out a hot battery in it and drove the heck out of it… Fun car….
