1967 Iso Grifo GL Barn Find!

1967 Iso Grifo GL

How do you compete with already established brands like Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini when your the new kid on the block? Well, you get Bertone to design you a breathtaking body, cram an American V8 into it, have Giotto Bizzarrini work his magic to the mechanicals and then slap the name of a mythical creature on it! Sounds pretty simple, right? Sadly it isn’t that easy, but that’s the basic formula Iso used when they developed the Grifo GL. These cars are amazing machines, but only about 400 were built and not many are left. This one has survived in, you guessed it, a barn!

1967 Iso Grifo GL Barn Find

It’s been pulled from the barn and is now set to be auctioned at RM’s upcoming London event on September 7th. It’s being offered without a reserve, but expect it to go for serious money! Hagerty values them between $300k and $440k, that’s a lot of zeros. While this one is rough, these don’t come to market in survivor or project form often and I’m sure it won’t go cheap. Then again, cheap is a relative term, so if you are in the market for a GL project, this could turnout to be a great buy.

While it might lack the Italian exhaust note, this Chevy 327 would sound great after a rebuild. No word is given as to whether it is the 300 or 350 horsepower version, lets hope for 350!

At this point, the auction house has only posted photos of the car. They haven’t provided any of its history, the story of how it was found, or what things are wrong with it. I’m excited to see what the full story is here! It wouldn’t be the first time a high dollar project was staged as a barn find, so we will see if that’s the case with this one.

Whether you have the money to own this Iso or not, you can still appreciate the fantastic photos it! I hope it really was found in this barn, but it looks far to perfect to be real. If any of you happen to know more about this car, we sure would love to hear from you in the comments! Special thanks to our friends at BoldRide for this tip.

Wow. I love these cars. of course, I’m never going to own one but in the fantasy world of exotica from the 1960s these are one of my all-time favorites. I had a toy car one of these growing up as a kid in the 1970s.

I find the mid-60s one of my favorite periods for styling and this car has the proportions just right for my eye.

No doubt this one is going to cost another fortune to restore on top of that hefty purchase price, but I guess a car like this is probably going to be worth it as the value of a well-restored one is right up there?

Nice and very rare. It should bring 200K or more easily. Who cares how much work it need, you not going to find another one.

A mate worked in a garage that sold Reliants and he would use an Iso Grifo to drive around in that they had in stock. This was in the seventies and he would smoke the tyres and thrash the hell out of it, we called it the Iso Grifo Revolting.

A few years ago one passed me on the motorway in France and when I got on the ferry to UK it was on the boat, someone was looking at it and asked the owner what it was, I interjected and said I knew, I said it’s an Iso Grifo, the owner was surprised I knew.

Some rich people treat their fine cars the way they treat the rest of the world.

To be auctioned by RM in London? It will probably go for way more than it should.

That’s assuming there are any high rollers left there who feel they can blow a few hundred thousand on a rusty old car plus a few hundred thousand more on a restoration, as opposed to conserving cash for the recession to come once the UK departs the European Union.

How is the name of this pronounced? “EyeSo GryeFo”? “Eeso GreeFo”? Or some other derivative?

Right hand drive must be just a small percentage of the total production run. Sad to see this.

The restoration will be more like a reconstruction from the looks of it. Buy it for more than 250 and you’re automatically in a loss situation.
