1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Convertible

This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Convertible is a well-preserved Southern California survivor with a single-owner history, all-original sheet metal, and a mildly upgraded small-block V8. It’s listed here on eBay in Rancho Cucamonga, California with no reserve and free U.S. shipping included.

Said to be a true RS/SS example, this Camaro is a numbers-matching car that has benefitted from a sympathetic restoration done 15 years ago. The seller notes that the Lemans Blue repaint was completed at that time, and while it shows some minor nicks, the finish still shines beautifully. The body appears laser straight, with no waves or dents, and it retains all original chrome and glass—an increasingly rare sight on first-gen F-bodies. According to the listing, this car has never suffered an accident and remains free of any body filler.

Under the hood is a rebuilt 350 V8 with fewer than 10,000 miles since completion. It features a mild cam, Hooker headers, Flowmaster exhaust, aluminum intake, and a 600 CFM Edelbrock carb. The result is a solid cruiser with just the right exhaust rumble. The Turbo automatic transmission is said to shift smoothly and firmly, making this Camaro a great choice for casual top-down weekend driving.

The car also boasts factory power steering and power front disc brakes, with upgraded front adjustable coilovers for a more planted ride. Brand new tires are fitted, and the RS trim includes hideaway headlights—a signature feature that helps set RS cars apart.

Inside, most of the interior is original, save for a few updated touches including the dash pad, carpet, and steering wheel. The seats are said to be in good condition but may benefit from fresh foam. A modern center console and shifter have been added, and while there’s no radio, upgraded speakers are already in place for a future install.

The convertible top and rear window are in excellent condition with no rips or stains, and they function as they should. The only notable need mentioned is a new weatherstripping kit, as some original seals are showing signs of age.

This RS/SS Camaro checks a lot of boxes, California provenance, desirable options, tasteful upgrades, and a clean presentation. If you’re in the market for a classic you can enjoy immediately, this blue bowtie might be the one.

    Why is the writer calling this car a “survivor”. A survivor car is generally considered to be one that’s original and unrestored. While it appears to be a nice Camaro, it’s not original or unrestored. The seller actually says this car was restored 15 years ago.

    This car’s been repainted, there’s nothing stock original under the hood, it has coil over suspension, the interior’s had a tacky custom steering wheel and window cranks added, the rally wheels are too wide to be original (they’re likely 15×8 Corvette rally’s), and who ever put the nose stripes on put them on wrong. The seller says it has a Turbo automatic, but to the best of my knowledge 68 350’s only came with the Powerglide?

    This is a pretty little Camaro, but please don’t call it a survivor. And considering that it’s being sold by a dealer, it’s hard to know if it really does have unhit original sheet metal, or really is one owner.

      It also has NO ps or brakes . As per the text . The stunning lack of A.C. is a real deal breaker . Plus many many things are either incorrect or just plain wrong . Its a nice 50 footer . But the people in the market for these cars wont want THIS example .

        Most of these back then were ordered with 4 wheel non power drum brakes, no p/w, no cruise, & no a/c !! – to save a lot of 1960s money.
        But most were ordered with p/s.
        You are right about 1 thing – most drivers/buyers are way too spoiled today.

    Maybe because it “survived” an amateurish restoration, lol.
    Looks ok in pictures, but I’d look it over in person.

    If you know these cars you can tell it’s not a real RS, non-RS rocker molding.
    The hide away headlights and backup lights were added.
    The taillights not correct for 1968, they are from a 1967 RS.
    Interior console should be blue, may have been a column shift car.
    Steering wheel with big fake SS emblem, made from Chineseum.
    Front paint strip is the wrong width and curvature.

    My concern is this car was thrown together quickly to take advantage of current pricing for these cars.

    While this ‘survivor’ (anything but, actually) is really pretty, it brings back a great memory of a real brand new 1967 in this color with the 4 speed. I was working part-time for Long Chevrolet in Lake Forest, Illinois and was tasked, one Saturday, with doing a dealer trade run. I had to drive a 67 Chevelle 4 door to Elgin, Illinois to trade for a 67 Camaro RS blue convertible (with as I recall the longitudinal white stripes in the hood), white top, white or blue interior (can’t recall), and the speedometer cable disconnected. 19 years old in hog heaven driving back, top down of course, and staying with the traffic with no speedo. Always wanted another and will have to accept that it won’t happen. So many cars, so little time.

    Just me but tired of camaro’s..I like firebirds more..
    Had a 69 bird loved it but my best was my 70 monte carlo….
