1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Indy Pace Car

What if your best friend calls and says he found a 1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Indy Pace Car for $2,500? Would you think that is a great deal or would you ask about the condition? Well, the picture above is the best angle on the car! It is rough and there are not a sufficient number of good pictures of the interior, trunk, or undercarriage. The seller says the frame and floors are solid. This second-generation Trans Am is listed for sale here on Facebook Marketplace for $2,500. The car can be picked up in Loami, Illinois.

The Turbo Trans Am was introduced in 1980 and came with a 301 cubic inch V8 engine that was rated at 210 horsepower. The original turbo 301 cubic inch V8 engine is long gone and has been replaced with a Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 engine. The seller states that he believes the car came with a turbo V6 but I think he might be confused with the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. The 400 cubic inch V8 engine is said to be in running 6 years ago but is now frozen and will need to be towed home. The original wheels are gone and the car now rides on 15×7 Rally II wheels.

The original Turbo Trans Am hood is off the car and sitting in the garage. Unfortunately, it is sitting on the rear edges of the hood which is not good. It looks like the car has been in a flood or at the least in a wet and muddy field  There is Bondo in the driver fender, too. Based on the presentation, I think the buyer just wants this car gone.

Pontiac offered the Indy Pace Car a special edition that came fully loaded tilt wheel, air conditioning, rear defrost, automatic transmission, WS6 handling package, T-tops, power windows, and power locks. A total number of 5,700 Indy Pace replica cars were produced in 1980. Today, they are not as rare as some other Trans Ams. The Indy Pace Car had a list price of $11,194 in 1980 which was a lot of money in 1980 but still sold well.

According to FB Marketplace the Seller determined the 400 motor was froze up and then reduced the price to $2,500 with a sale now pending.

Glad you brought up not to stand hoods up on the bottom corners. That has damaged many expensive hoods over the years.

Why did the chicken leave the car?

    Maybe a clue there…

I remember a kid in high school came into money and bought one of these, it was in fantastic condition. Everyone laughed at that POS, I think he thought it was cool and the fact no one else did just crushed him. I got rid of it after a few months and bought a 69 Camaro that was basically a drag car, no one laughed at that car.

Lamest Pontiac powered Trans Am to date, at least it was a Pontiac, it a 403 Oldsmobile, it was all down hill from here on, Pontiac was a Chevy and a Buick, but never a Pontiac again, so all these guys with 80s Trans Ams are really driving Camaros, it became a joke, should have shut down then, I’m a Pontiac forever man,
