29k Miles and Mostly Original: 1934 Chevrolet Master Coupe

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Five-Window coupes from the 1930’s have aged well in my opinion and still look great from any angle. Here’s a handsome-looking 1934 Chevrolet Coupe with quite a bit of originality and very low mileage (22,909) going for it. Here’s the story: the current owner bought it from a friend named Steve who had purchased the Coupe 30 years ago from the original owner. Steve kept it in his barn in New Hampshire and only drove it to local car shows and events and put maybe 2,000 miles on it. It’s currently located in Simi Valley, California and is for sale here on eBay. There’s a Buy It Now price listed at $26,500, but the seller is open to offers.

I like the two-tone look of this Chevy and the Arcadian Green paint compliments the black fenders, running boards, and wire wheels. The seller shares that previous owner replaced the deteriorated fabric top panel in the roof and had the car’s roof and pillars repainted. The rest of the car’s paint is original and the seller says that it doesn’t look bad to be 89 years old, but it does show some dings, scratches, paint cracks, thin spots, primer, and corrosion. The body looks straight and I’m not spotting rust or anything else that would raise a red flag. The bumpers are described as pitted and the rear bumper spare tire is missing (but the spare tire mounting parts and cover come with the car). The tires are Firestone and were bought at some point by the previous owner.

The Coupe’s interior is in good shape as well. The previous owner reupholstered the seat but it’s not “period correct” and doesn’t blend in with the rest of the brown cloth interior. The instrument panel and working gauges look very good and we’re told the door panels and headliner are original (I like the shade that could be pulled down on the rear glass). There’s no rubber mat or floor covering, so you can see wood your shoes would be resting on.

Under the hood is the original 206-cubic inch inline Master Six engine that’s paired to a 3-speed transmission. The seller claims that the straight six runs well with no leaks or smoking as says “The car drives well, the transmission works as designed, and the brakes stop the car as they should.” The odometer reads 29,909 miles, approximately 1,000 of those are from the current owner after he had the Master Coupe trucked from New Hampshire to Southern California. It’s amazing that a desirable coupe like this has survived for 89 years with this much originality. I’d be tempted to leave it as is and just enjoy driving and showing it. How about you?

Anyone that butchers this is an idiot. Now this is rare and collectable. And worth way more than any Chevelle or Vette

A high horsepower motor in that frame and it would twist the glass right out of that body.
The engine in this car has babbitt filled rod bearings in it, good luck finding someone to handle those.

There are advantages to the babbit bearings, too much to list here. Hudson preferred them, and the Hudson out performed all of the competition at one time doing all the big races, NASCAR.

Redo the seat, find a floor mat and you’re good to go. It would be a fantastic DD.

Awesome car. I have a can of Texaco automobile varnish that was popular back in the 20’s of various brands to protect the paint.I wonder if this has a coat of it. Probably not because it would be dried out by now .Little too steep of a price imo.Nice car though I like it alot.glwts

Now this is a rare collectable car. In my opinion worth way more than any Chevelle or Vette. Anyone that molests this should be jailed.

I really like this car, and the style is one that says “class” to me. I hope someone leaves it as it is, except to clean up a few spots, but don’t change its character.

What Mike said. And no rush needed to make these changes either. Someone will be getting a sweet old car. GLWTS.

Those beautiful clear gauges give supporting evidence the odometer has not been around multiple times. It’s easy to believe the 22909.

If I had the room I’d be bidding on this Chevy. I hope the new owner keeps it the way it looks with a few touch ups here and there. This car is a weekend driver as is.

I’d normally want to do some modern enhancements on a car like this to make it more driveable but this puppy is so original that I would not touch a hair on it’s chinny-chin-chin. It is perfect.

Cars of this caliber aren’t even manufactured any longer. All of the electronics on the newer vehicles would absolutely be dead at the same age of this vehicle. I often think that simplicity is the best policy when pertaining to mechanical operations. What a jewel this automobile is. I wish I had the cash!
