BF AUCTION: 1974 Pontiac Formula 400

Bid to: $4,500View Result

If the Super Duties that we currently have at auction are too expensive for ya, may we suggest this ratty Formula 400? It’s not as rare or valuable, but it has potential and will go for a lot less money. It also came out of that large Firebird stash that was recently pulled out of a Minnesota warehouse. This is a Barn Finds Auction, so be sure to register to bid below.

The interior is rough, but it’s nothing an upholstery kit and some fresh carpet couldn’t fix. Parts for these F-bodies are readily available and make restorations much easier than some less popular cars. Luckily, the dash pad doesn’t look too bad because those can get pricing to replace.

Unfortunately, there is rust in the frame rails and rear bumper support. You can get the metal, but replacing them won’t be as easy as the seat upholstery. The rear quarters are also showing some of the nasty stuff, but supposedly the floors aren’t too bad.

The 400 was sort of a mid-range engine. This thing was tricked out otherwise though with an automatic, front disc brakes, AM radio, air conditioning, and much more. The AC alone was a $420 option! The engine is said to run and the car is drivable.

This one is going to need some work, but should be a sweet Firebird when done. I love that Crestwood Brown paint and the Formula hood scoops! This could be an affordable way into Firebird ownership for someone who is willing to get their hands dirty. Firebird central. After careful consideration, I’ll take the one for $100 bucks,,,
Jesse, any membership specials coming up? I thought maybe Halloween. I never liked a free ride.

Reminds me of one I considered a few decades ago, same color exactly, not sure of the year, but it had a four on the floor. Unfortunately, I wasn’t familiar at all driving stick and after many first to fourth shifts and chugaluglug starts I just pulled over and let the owner drive it back, who was holding back the laughter pretty good. Two grand, and pretty much a cherry of a car. Awe shucks.

Re: Rust, take a look at the Hi-Res photo available for this listing. Very clean doors, even the floors look good. Just the rear of the car rusted. For some odd reason it isn’t the entire car. It is a very good candidate to restore. Very complete and unmodified and still has it’s numbers matching engine. It really has a lot going to it.
