Auction Preview Of Hoarders Collection

Hoader's Collection

Back in March, we featured a story about a hoarder’s collection of cars that the Orange County District Attorney Public Administrator’s Office has taken upon itself to auction off. I’m still not sure about the State of California’s involvement in this estate sale, but I am glad to see that these cars will be going to new homes! Well after 5 months of waiting, the auction is finally happening and the preview is happening today. The auction begins tomorrow morning at the Public Administrator’s Office parking lot at 1300 South Grand Ave. in Santa Ana, California. If anyone is in the area and can stop by, we would love to hear about how the cars look and how the auction turns out! Special thanks to Dale P for reminding us about this event! Find more information about the auction here on the OCRegister.

1952 Bently Type R

There are lots of interesting cars in this auction, although most are rough projects. There are a number of VW Beetles, several Mercedes Sedans, a 1952 Bentley Type R, and even an experimental airplane! I wonder what else is in this collection?

Wouldn’t mind getting the 49’Ford Drop top, the 17′ and 18′ model T trucks & 19′ T sedan,, 68′ & 69′ VW Transports, The Model AA commercial truck would make a nice yard art item, 69′ Datsun truck, That Allis Chalmers Model B1 would make a wicked looking lawn mower/ yard tractor, 30′ mod A Roadster, Mod T with the 1924 Washington “Horseless Carriage plates, and finally of course the 52′ Bentley

Some interesting items to say the least

I wish I was on the left coast. I’d take a serious look at the Healey, MG, and the ’52 red Chevy pickup. The Bentley is awfully nice.

I’ll cement my reputation as being the lover of quirky things and say that I’d go for the plane. I once had a license and it would be fun to fly again. If the plane has a reg number it was airworthy at some point in time and would be fun if you could get it for only $1-2 grand. That way you could afford to inspect and quite possibly rebuild everything.

      Hey, Mark

I build & fly large r/c airplanes & have flown several full size….. I stood next to this plane today. If you offered every criminal on death row the chance to take this plane up for one go around & landing for one minute of flight, and if they survived……and the state would stuff a million dollars in a 3 piece suit,,,,,,and drive them to freedom in a stretch limo………….no one would volunteer. . ……THAT’S HOW SCARY THIS THING LOOKED! Novelty for display….yes. To transport a human for flight…..NO!

    Hey guys!
I was there today! I’m glad I had a recent tetanus shot…..as there was a lot of rust!
There were a few 30’s Fords that are salvageable, but most will just be someones “some day” dream. The 2 VW buses are absolutely terrible! I see the 65 split window already has a $3600.00 pre-bid on Proxibid. It’s about $2000.00 higher than I thought it would close at. Goes to show that sometimes bidding online can be a scary surprise when you finally get to meet your prize in person! Good luck to the winners of both! BTW…the Bentley, Healey, & MG were brought in by the auctioneer. They weren’t part of this guys estate. The’re fluff for the auction. I asked one of the workers for Ken Porter Auctions!

This is SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, there are still enough guys there that will probably make something out of every bolt and nut etc!
That’s where all the dream cars came from in the US–not Detroit!

Did anyone see what the plane brought? That looks like the plane the crazy guy with the little kid flew in Mad Max I believe beyond thunder dome, or was it the second one.
