Barn Fresh: 1970 Cadillac DeVille Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

There’s no doubt that this Cadillac is a barn find, it’s still covered in barn dust! It’s definitely going to need a ton of work to just be made into a driver, but the seller’s BIN is $3,500 and bidding is at just $510, so it might be worth taking on. These can get expensive to restore, but if it’s complete and doesn’t have any serious rust you might be able to get it back on the road without breaking the bank. Be sure to have a closer look at it here on eBay in Peru, New York.

With a car this big, you need a big engine! That’s a 472 cui V8, so it isn’t the largest Cadillac engine ever, but with 375 horsepower and 525 foot pounds of torque on tap it’s no slouch. The seller hasn’t tried to get the engine running, but with some fresh fluids I bet it would start right up. These massive engines are surprisingly easy to work on and for the most part, they are bulletproof.

The interior is one area that makes me very worried about how the future looks for this Cadillac. Finding replacement parts to get it back into top condition would be expensive and time consuming. It looks to be complete though and it like much of it could be cleaned up or restored. I’d love to see how the seats turn out after a good cleaning!

As you can see, it’s definitely going to need a new convertible top installed and some new tires. It looks like there might be some rust in the bottom of the fenders, but it’s hard to tell from this angle just how bad it is. It’s in the state of New York, so it’s probably safe to assume it has some rust issues. As cool as this Caddy is, I’m actually a bit more curious about what else might be stored on this property!

How many bodies can fit in that trunk?

Cool car back in the day. Got to drive a hardtop one time. So quiet inside, couldn’t hear, or feel, the engine running at a stop.

Among my favorites ! I had a ’65 convertible many years ago and miss it tremendously.

Holy cow, what a barge! Those front protrusions look like they were designed to corral pedestrians and send them under the front wheels.

What about the Corvette and Dodge in the background?

Are the mice still living in the front seat?

I had a 73 Sedan DeVille. 8 city 11 highway. It barely felt like it was moving. I remember one time complaining about the traffic creeping along, until I looked down at the speedometer and realized I was doing 90 in a 55 zone.

finding a Coupe De Ville for parts would be a pretty easy find – lots of them out there in all sorts of conditions. I am not sure I would pony up for the BIN price but it’s definitely a workable project that could yield a fairly nice car. My old man has a 72 – with the 472 and it was plenty to push such a aircraft carrier around. The trannies are sometimes the issues with these.

Beautiful car in a great color. This’ll clean up well and make a great driver for not a lot of money. If I had room for it, I’d buy it now.

Bought more than a few “barn finds” with the interior in the same condition. If your sense of smell is shot you are good to go!

Paint it white and you can pretend you’re Boss Hogg!

I think there’s lots and lots of bondo hiding under the paint in the lower quarter panels. I would bet the floors are bad, and being from NY the frame is likely rusted also. Though I love these cars, this ones not for me.

I agree.. I am from Syracuse, NY, which is very close to Peru, NY the areas around here use road salt HEAVILY.. seeing the snow tires on the back, are a big red flag, like I said, it is about 20 miles away from me, drop me a line if you want me to give it a once over ( I am not a professional, would do this for a fellow BF reader ) this one has had another ad previously pretty sure I have seen his ( or her) lot b4

My dad had a 72 and I can’t tell you guys how many weekends me and my brothers were made to wash and wax the damn thing every weekend! It did teach me how to care and maintain a vehicle! It was pink with a white top I always thought that he really bought it for my mother! I would never buy a pink car people could get the wrong impression! LOL

Buy cheap, polish the paint, scrub the interior with whitewall tire cleaner, put the top down and leave it down, drive on weekends ’til it falls apart. Nick Nolte style.

I just need a pair of nice straight bumper centers (front & rear) so it’s not worth buying a whole car over, but, if I had the room to strip it and house all the parts the price is right on this one. Anyone out there have a nice 69/70 front bumper for sale for a reasonable price?
