BF AUCTION: 1957 Triumph TR3

There’s still some summer left to enjoy so why not do it a British roadster? There are lots of options when sports car shopping, but the TR3 should be at the top of everyone’s list. They are powerful, awesome looking, and affordable to fix. This particular one isn’t perfect, but it may be just right if you are looking for something to drive. Lots of work has already been done to ensure that it’s a nice runner so it should be ready to go. It’s located in Streetsboro, Ohio and you can place your bid below if interested.

Steve, the seller, has owned this car since 1998 and they have gone through just about everything. The engine was rebuilt with TR4 pistons and it runs great. The brakes and suspension were also gone through. A new aluminum radiator was installed and the rear end was swapped out. The wiring harness was replaced before Steve got the car too so it sounds like most of the greasy work has already been done.

The inside has some wear and tear, but it’s good enough to drive out in the elements without fear. The floor pans are galvanized steel and there’s a plastic cover over the non-overdrive transmission. The cockpit has been insulated and all the gauges work, as do the signals and horn. There’s a soft top in case of rain, but I’d just keep that Tonneau in place and order some goggles and a hat.

There are some flaws in the paint including some spider webbing, scratches, dings, and a few places where the original black paint is showing through. Most people would be tempted to start sanding if this were in their garage, but it would be a better idea to just focus on keeping the car maintained and driving it as much as possible. A driver quality TR3 like this is still on my bucket list, so I’m tempted to throw a bid in there myself!

Thanks for listing this one with us Steve. We hope it goes to a good home where it will get the snot driven out of it. If any of you are interested in doing just that, please register as bidder and place your bids below. Also be sure to leave your questions in the comments section. Finally, if any of you have a cool driver like this that you are thinking about selling, please consider listing it here on Barn Finds!

Isn’t it ALWAYS top-down season in FLA?!?!
I live in Boston by comparison, so I guess I just don’t understand.

I’m so happy I went through my TR3 years a couple of decades ago. I’ve owned 4 over the years and got every one of them in excellent driver condition for a couple of grand.
    Great cars!

Steve, how can I contact you regarding the car?

I really like old cars of this sort, drivers that are stout but aren’t over-refurbished. You’d never be afraid to take this out on the road and have a great time. The TR3 was and is one of my favorite sports car designs. So cool with that tough engine and cutout doors. Good luck to all!

Why why why galvanized steel for floors? Why do people do that? It doesn’t have the strength or rigidity. Otherwise, not a bad car.

This is what was in it when I got the car. Have not had any issues with the galvanized steel floors.

Cool. Good to hear. I’ve had to deal with galvanized on many Triumphs. I do like the TR4 piston swap, good upgrade there! Looks like a fun, not cosseted but well maintained car.

Some of my best memories are over 40 years old now and involve powersliding through too many corners in the Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica Mountains in my 1959 TR3! Best damn cheap oil leakin’ British roadster ever!

Father in law drove his new bride from Cape Breton Nova Scotia to Edmonton Alberta in December of 1963 in his (60?) TR3 …. white with a red leather interior…. he thinks they may have lost a suitcase off the luggage rack somewhere along the way! Highways were quite different then…..Not many cars at the time could handle a cross Canada drive… much less in middle of winter!… would like to let him have another spin behind the wheel!

That is a great idea. If you bid and win… you can take him for a lot of spins.
