BF AUCTION: 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie

Bid to: $967View Result

John O has known this car since he was just a kid. The previous owner was a neighbor and close family friend. She took good care of this Fairlane, driving it carefully during her ownership. When his Dad had a chance to buy it, he had to have it. It’s been parked in the barn for a number of years though and needs to be brought back to life! You can find it in their barn (with all the other cars we are auctioning) in Fort Wayne, Indiana and you can bid on it below.

From John – This 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie was owned by an old woman named Agnes “Aggie” Ahrens who was a close family friend and a good neighbor. I recall taking many rides in this car. Aggie drove this vehicle, just like she walked, slowly and carefully. The seats were covered in a protective vinyl but they have seen better days as can be seen in the photos. There is an included replacement back seat which in much better shape (photo below). It was either upholstered or bought to match the vehicle but was never installed which is a good thing. There are spots of rust which can be seen in the photos. It has a clear title and the keys are present.

This V8 hasn’t been started in a while, but hopefully will run again with minimal work. The odometer is showing 37k miles, but it’s hard to say if it’s rolled over. If it really is 37k and the engine isn’t seized, this V8 should have lots of life left in it.

It might be a 4-door, but this Fairlane looks like it has a lot of potential. John provided photos of the trunk and underside and while there is surface rust showing, it looks to be quite solid throughout. It looks like the interior is going to be the biggest challenge, but having a new backseat that’s in good shape included, will make it easier to get this back on the road. So, would you haul your friends and family around in this Galaxie?

I’m going to guess it’s an FE 332 or 352, because the y block would have the distributor in back.

What I don’t get is… Why would the neighbor, who supposedly really wanted this car, just buy it from the lady, then just let it sit and deteriorate?

Drake, a lot can happen in 60 years. Maybe it was lovingly driven and preserved by the latest owner until something else happened to dry dock it? Does the seller mention how many years they’ve owned it?

This was my dad’s car but it was supposed to be willed to me. I was too young to drive when Aggie died. I was the kid that drove around in this car that belonged to her. She took care of me when I was little and I looked after her when she was old. She didn’t know any of her family or friends aside from me in the end. If I had the time, talent, and space, I’d love to fix it. My dad was a horder. It was buried along with everything else that he collected over the years and not tended properly. He would lose his mind again if he knew I was getting rid of everything. I’ll try to get some good videos of it tomorrow and make sure to get a video including the underside.

I shot a video today to give you as clear of a picture as I can on what you might be considering to bid on. If I’m breathing heavy, sorry. I kicked up a lot of dust and fungus when I tried to clean the funky stuff off the upholstery. Barnfinds will embed this in the write-up but I wanted to put it here in case you missed the edit. Also, I was told that there was a replacement back seat earlier but when I pulled it down from the rafters, I discovered that it was not for the Fairlane. There are obvious flaws with this and I did my best to highlight any that I noticed in fairness. Anyway, the video should be processing and published soon. It will be here: https://youtu.be/kFBeBeR_vwM
