This 1977 Chevrolet Corvette left the factory powered by the range-topping L-82 version of Chevrolet’s 350ci V8. It provided very respectable performance by the standards of the day, but many enthusiasts craved more. If you harbor that feeling, this classic deserves a close look. The L-82 has made way for a blueprinted 350 that generates considerably more power, giving this ‘Vette the performance credentials that the badge deserves. It is an extremely tidy vehicle that has provided its current owner with plenty of fun. However, all good things must end, with the owner deciding that the time has come for the Corvette to head to a new home. Therefore, he has listed this beauty exclusively with us at Barn Finds Auctions.

The 1977 model year saw the Corvette continue to cement itself in the market, with the badge setting a new sales record of 49,213 vehicles. The Malaise Era may have been in full swing, but buyers turned to Chevrolet’s iconic sports car in a bid for their slice of motoring performance. This car presents nicely in Corvette Dark Red, a shade chosen by 3,434 buyers. Close inspection reveals minor flaws and imperfections, but it is definitely a contender for enthusiasts seeking a driver-grade classic. The paint shines richly, with the photos revealing no evidence of corrosion or rust. The bumpers haven’t succumbed to age or UV exposure, and the trim is in good order. This Corvette rolls on a sparkling set of red-striped 15″ aluminum wheels, wrapped in new BF Goodrich tires that help to emphasize the car’s muscular good looks.

The Corvette was small-block territory by 1977, with the last cars fitted with a 454ci V8 leaving the line in 1974. Most buyers opted for the L48 version of the 350ci V8, but this car is 1-of-6,148 where the first owner splashed $495 on the more potent L-82 version. It delivered 210hp and 255 ft/lbs of torque, with both numbers considered impressive in 1977. However, that is now irrelevant, because this beauty features a blueprinted 350 that has been dyno-tested to produce 371hp. With a Holley Sniper Control system, that figure will climb to 420hp. If you are the type to crave more, the owner includes a Nitrous Kit, still in the box. Bolting that in place brings a further 200hp to the party. This Corvette isn’t a one-trick pony, with the owner holding a collection of receipts confirming the work was performed by a reputable speed shop. This included rebuilds for the three-speed automatic transmission and the rear end when the motor was installed, an aluminum radiator and electric cooling fans to keep temperatures in check, and headers and a new exhaust to dispose of the spent gases. Throw in Wilwood brakes on all corners, new suspension, a high-volume fuel pump, and a high-torque starter, and it becomes clear that this Corvette is a total package. However, don’t view this classic purely as a high-performance vehicle, because it functions very effectively as a daily driver.

The first owner ordered this Corvette with its interior trimmed in Smoked Gray leather. It also features power windows and a leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic wheel for added comfort. The interior isn’t perfect, but it is comfortably acceptable for a daily driver. The winning bidder could perform a refresh if they liked, but this wouldn’t involve the cost of replacing the seatcovers. They are in good condition, looking supple and inviting. The factory radio is gone, although that provides scope for the buyer to add the stereo of their choice.

The mid-1970s was a pretty miserable era in automotive history, with a push for stricter emission regulations coming at the expense of engine power and outright performance. This 1977 Corvette seeks to address that shortcoming, recalling the glory days when the C3 was a brutal beast that provided neck-snapping performance. It’s updated small-block features enough modern technology to provide plenty of power with decent manners, making it a viable daily driver. Those seeking more from this classic could add the included Nitrous Kit, pushing its performance to a greater level. If you find those prospects seemingly irresistible, submitting a bid could be the first step in making your dream a reality.

Funny thing about C3 Corvettes – anyone who’s ever owned one would like to have it back. Not the greatest cars of all time, but there’s a certain cachet to a C3. Maybe it’s the flamboyant fender line or the laid back seating or the incessant compliments. This one’s nice and hopefully the reserve isn’t outrageous. ’77s are notable as being the last year of the tunnel back (or flying buttress) roofline and Chevy ditched the awful Vega steering wheel.
I agree , I want my ’79 back.
I have heard the back window referred to as “The sugar scoop” I always liked that description.
Presents better than my own 77 did. Buy it right and enjoy.
A beautiful color, matched with the power that a Corvette should have. GLWTA
The owner was smart to soup up that anemic L82. That’s what I would have done if I got one for a low price. Be interesting to see what this sells for.
IDK if he rebuilt the stock engine or replaced it. Those aren’t the stock heads, intake or exhaust manifolds. They look like later model Vortec heads.
I’d skip the nitrous. I’d like to know the specs on the engine. Did he rebuild or replace?
It is a Blueprint brand long block crate motor
Does it have a/c
