UPDATE – Due to a technical error on our part, this auction was displaying the wrong location and detail information. We feel that it’s only fair that we restart this auction. Sorry for the confusion.
Dodge pickups of the late 1970s are already gaining ground with collectors, but every once in a while, a truly special edition comes along. That’s exactly what we’ve got here with this 1979 Dodge D150 True Spirit, a limited model that was only offered in California and Arizona. This rare truck is now up for auction on Barn Finds, and it stands out for both its originality and condition.

With just 76,000 miles on the odometer and a clean title, this D150 has all the makings of a solid collector piece. The seller notes that the truck originally came out of California, which helps explain its rust-free body. It lived in California until the early 2000s and was sold to a Dodge collector in the Midwest to be displayed alongside their Warlocks and Lil’ Red Expresses; as a result, it’s never seen snow or harsh weather. Unlike so many workhorses that spent their lives hauling, denting, and rusting away in the elements, this one has survived in excellent condition. The oak wood rails and oak-lined truck bed are intact and present beautifully, giving it a period-correct look that complements the True Spirit trim.

Under the hood is Dodge’s dependable 360-cubic-inch V8 paired with an automatic transmission. According to the listing, the truck runs and drives just as it should, making it more than just a display piece, it’s a classic you can actually enjoy on the road. Dodge offered a variety of dress-up and special-trim packages in the ’70s, but the True Spirit is especially unusual. Many never survived due to being used as daily work trucks, which makes finding one in this shape all the more exciting.

The interior, much like the rest of the truck, is remarkably well-preserved. The seller does point out a couple of flaws worth noting: the driver’s seat has a few split seams, and the glovebox door shows a crack in the vinyl. Otherwise, everything appears to be in great shape and speaks to the truck’s careful ownership over the years.

Collectors know that originality matters, and this Dodge checks that box. It hasn’t been over-restored, and it hasn’t been hacked up or modified, it’s a genuine survivor. Combine that with the rarity of the True Spirit edition, and you have a pickup that stands apart in a crowded field of classic trucks.

Whether you’re a Mopar enthusiast, a truck collector, or just someone who loves vintage survivors, this 1979 Dodge D150 True Spirit is a rare chance to grab a piece of Dodge truck history.

Never heard of these. Being a life long Michigander it seems to add up. I like the seat upgrade but a slant six automatic is going to be a leisurely drive. Cool truck.
Just to be clear, it’s not a 6 cylinder. 360 v8 auto
I had a 1977 model. It had been built after a strike or so I was told. Bumper was held on by two bolts instead of four. The truck was in the shop two months out of the first three months I owned it. The story goes on and on.. I own a 2005 Dodge ram 2500 with a Cummings diesel in it. Great engine marginal truck. Enjoy.
There was an error in our system, so it was displaying the wrong information. We’ve since corrected the issue. Sorry for the confusion everyone!
Thanks Josh!!!
It’s my truck. I have a car condo in River Falls. Live in Minnesota.
Not a scam. Special is the True Spirit.
Same as a Lil Red and warlock!
This is my truck. Not a scam. BF did not notify me it was live until today and I noticed their error in the listing right away. I live in Minnesota and have a car condo a few miles away in Hudson/River Falls WI. I am not a dealer. Retired public safety person with too many trucks. Selling two. Ask real questions and glad to answer. This is a nice truck. Yes, its rare because very few True Spirits were made- yes largely a factory decal package like all the “Dodge Adult Toy” series of the late 70’s. Don’t like it, move on please. Its a cool truck and won’t find another one at a car show. Its a blast to drive and extremely clean.
I’m confused. Did you swap in the 360, or is it stock? I see there was a comment that it didn’t come with the 360?
It’s stock. Came from factory with 360. Description in comments was first offering of this package in 1976. More options added in final years.
Jim- it was listed with wrong info from BF staff. Sorry. It is 76xxx miles and is corrected now
Mike- the Connecticut stuff was BF mistake. It’s my truck. Live in MN and stored in WI about 5 miles away. My facebook listing should have been 76,xxx miles. I had corrected that. fat fingers.
My understanding is – they were basically a regional striping package that could be added on to any engine combination. No quantities were tracked. I have someone working on the stripes but it is not looking good cost wise – not enough demand to justify start up costs.
Not a lot of info out there in True Spirits. They started at same time as Warlock and Lil Red. Supposedly sold in Arizona and California. 1976 was the biggest push to sell them. After that sales dropped as Warlock took most sales. They officially stopped selling in 1978 with a few 1979’s filling late orders.

Not certain you’re looking at the same truck. This one has a 360 V8.
Correct this one is a 360 auto. Information shared was in reply to a comment about the True Spirit package
It’s a powerful truck. My other Dodge I’m selling is the dependable 225 6 cylinder. Nice engine but very slow. Shipping is always $. You should be able to call some of the national firms and get a free quote on transporting from zip code 54016 to your home. Thanks for the interest

Did I see a red service light (check engine) lit on the lower dash instrument panel? Otherwise a nice Dodge truck for that model year.
No that’s the red button for cargo light on off. I always think it looks like a trouble light too.

I also had no idea these existed. I remember the Lil red truck and the Warlock, but this??? The wood in the bed trim reminds me of my grandpa’s old farm trucks. Very interesting find here. The oh so 70’s earthtone color is the icing on the cake.
Both round and rectangular headlights available in 1979 and 80
Same as the Little Red Wagon, only without the red. Nice truck! I’d rather have one of these than any of the 4-door behemoths masquerading as pickups nowadays.
Thanks Terry. I agree. I like the odd stuff and you always see lil reds at car shows but rarely a True Spirit
