UPDATE – An inspection report has been added to the gallery below.

This 1970 Dodge D100 Stepside truck underwent a full restoration, but shortly after completing it, the seller moved out of the country and left it parked in their driveway. That was 16 years ago, and it’s still sitting, awaiting someone to come revive and enjoy it. The seller has decided the time has come to get it out of their Mother’s driveway, so they are offering it here as a no reserve Barn Finds Auction!

The D-Series saw an impressively long production run, with four generations spanning from 1960 until 1993. This third-generation truck boasts a boxy yet handsome design and ample functionality, making it a capable cruiser that can handle weekend runs to the lumberyard or car shows.

During the restoration, the truck received a new interior with some custom touches. The black and red upholstery is a bit flashy, but it looks to be in great condition and is usable as is. Since it has been parked for nearly 20 years, the interior could use a thorough cleaning. While parts supply isn’t as strong as later trucks, parts are still available to return it to its original condition, if that’s the route you decide to take.

Under the hood, we find a 440 V8, which is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Since it hasn’t been started in 16 years, it will need some work to get it back on the road. The seller isn’t sure which vehicle the engine and transmission originally came from, but even the lowest-spec 440 is more than powerful enough to move this truck along nicely.

This Stepside has a ton of potential, whether it’s just to clean it up and drive it as is, or customize it into your dream truck. The seller states that the body and frame are in near-perfect condition; they do appear to be in good condition in the photos. So, if you’ve been on the hunt for an interesting classic truck, this might be the one for you! Be sure to cast your high bid and leave any questions you have in the comment section below!

Nicely confifigured Dodge truck here. Shortbox stepside with the large rear window. If the trans. is a torque-flite. Then this pickup will zoom. Appears all the hard work has been done. Shouldn’t take much to get running. I’d change the chrome wheels for black steelies to accentuate the black trim. Thats just me.

Thinkin slushbox. My bad. What I meant was an A833 4-spd. or car transmission.

Though stated as a 4 spd stick, perhaps one of the reasons it has t been driven is due to the missing clutch pedal!
It’s not seen in the interior photos, anyway..

I have the same question another user posted – is this an A833 4 speed transmission, or a truck type compound low first gear 4 speed transmission?

Too, what final drive gears does it have-is this a boulevard racer or can I drive it cross country at a reasonable speed?
LOVE to have this truck, regardless.
      The AM/FM cassette is a nice touch..😊

Sandy, just because it has a Hurst shifter, it isn’t necessarily a 4 on the floor. Hurst made shifters for automatic transmissions also. The fact that it has no clutch pedal AND there is an automatic transmission lipstick and tube. Indicates that this truck has an automatic transmission. The only vehicle that I ever saw with a clutch (electronically disengaged the clutch) on a shifter was my 1959 Renault 4CV with electric clutch. I understand that this truck is on your property. But you didn’t build it. Please don’t get offensive. The people here do not wish to berate you. They all are incredibly experienced automotive people that sometimes feel that they are being lied to when facts don’t line up with text. Good luck on selling your very nice truck.

    Nice looking truck.
If you look close to left of steering wheel it appears to be the clutch. Darker than floor around it. Also look at shift lever on hump, appears to be shifter for manual.
Wish it were about 300 m west.

There is NO clutch pedal to the left of the brake pedal. I copied the photo and enhanced it – there is definitely no clutch pedal there. The shifter definitely looks like a manual. If it is a 4 speed manual – that would be a good reason why it hasn’t been driven — no way to shift it – dead in the driveway.

I’m really good at using a clutch. But I don’t see one to use. I am not normally attracted to these trucks. But the way it’s painted and I love side mounted spare tires. Whether it’s a stick OR automatic I would love to park it in my driveway after installing a new bed floor. I also noticed that the heater hoses are missing. Bad heater core?

Tons of these trucks were gov’t vehicles used by the military, state, forest service. That would explain the low mileage. Military base I worked on would have these trucks for 10+ years and then get rid of them with less than 15,000 on them. Trouble was, all the starting and stopping they would easily go through 2 or 3 starters in that 15,000 miles, not to mention the idle time on the engines.

Like the others have said, there is no clutch pedal and it has a dipstick for the transmission so it has to be a automatic not a manual as stated by the seller. Still nice looking truck overall!

can we confirm that it actually has a title? Seems abandoned in someone’s driveway- and since there appears to be some confusion on exactly what type of transmission it has, would like some confirmation that it has a clean, transferable title. Thanks. Ted

The statement about the seller moving out of the country and leaving it in someone’s driveway for 16 years seems like it could lead someone to think of it as “abandoned” – the fact that it states a couple of places that it is a four speed but appears to be an automatic seems to show some confusion of the facts about the vehicle. Seemed like a fair question.

Ms Estrella, I apologize if my questions seemed inappropriate. The inspector’s comments in the summary section of the inspection document indicate that this is an automatic transmission and the shifter has been moved to the floor position. Thank you for confirming that there is a clear title available.

??There appears to be two sets of photos. One set everything looks clean. The other, everything looks like it has been sitting and deteriorating. Inspection report says can’t open drivers door due to where it is parked. yet, in the “clean” photos, the driver’s door is in the clear.

The second set of photos were taken by the inspector. Since the inspection was on short notice, the seller’s son didn’t have time to put the truck back on the rollers to move it away from the wall.

Actually, we can start with the Data Rating Plate, which is located on the rear door jamb of the driver’s door. This shows all pertinent Equipment that was on the truck as it left the factory.

Then a picture of the driver’s floorboard should tell a lot about the transmission. A picture if the floor shifter, will let us know what shifter (which hints at the transmission) what transmission it’s likely to have.

Can/will the seller provide these pictures to this group?

From better pictures, I say it’s definitely an automatic, with a floor shifter. You’ll also notice a wider Automatic Trans brake pedal from a car (I’ve had 2 Sweptline Long, wheelbase pickups, a 1969 and a 1970, both 318, Automatic, Long Bed, and the brake pedals were all the same as a straight drive truck.) The outside appearance looks good. The only places that worry me on a Dodge pickup of this era are the inner rocker (step) panels and the firewall. From the pictures shown, I don’t see any tell-tale rust or the floor pan flange separating from the floor pan (due to rust). The steering wheel is wrong and from an earlier cab, as a 69-71 would have a breakaway type due to newer crash rules (no big deal) and the truck has the lower grill, extra cooling “slot panel” lower grill panel from a D-300 (actually a good thing for extra cooling, unless you want the solid panel. I like this truck, but I NEED at least a long bed and want the Sweptline debbossed pressing on the long bed, giving it kind of a Late 1950s Virgil Exner look .

Truck definitely has an automatic transmission. Dipstick and tube visible on passenger side of engine, along with the truck not having a clutch pedal. Clean truck for sure, with an awesome drivetrain.

The seller of this truck is a scammer. They had their son place a bid and then blocked their cards so we couldn’t charge the buyer’s premium. They were also not transparent with their presentation of the vehicle. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused any interested parties. The seller has been banned and we caution anyone who may deal with them in the future.

it does not take much to gerry rig some fuel to system a battery and fire it up! That certainly goes a long way for selling it at a handsome price….otherwise its a Red Flag…

This entire project looks like someone’s high-on-something-fantasy idea of restoring a classic truck. The interior is so over the top juvenile-flashy – you’d never have to worry about falling asleep in that cab.

There are parts missing; the steering wheel hub cover will be hard to find. The wiring under the hood and under the dash is a horrible convoluted rat’s nest – no telling what problems that will present to the new owner. Photos of the undercarriage shows low hanging cables and wiring – just waiting to get caught on something and ripped off. This is NOT a restoration – it’s an amateur hobby done by someone winging it on weekends and making it up as they go along.

There is NO clutch pedal to the left of the brake pedal. I copied the photo and enhanced it – there is definitely no clutch pedal there. The shifter definitely looks like a manual – however there is a dipstick behind the engine which is only there for automatics. If it is a 4 speed manual – that would be a good reason why it hasn’t been driven — no way to shift it – dead in the driveway. — If it is an automatic – as the tranny dipstick implies – then there is no gear indicator to know what gear the tranny is in (the gear indicator on the dash is blank as it would be for a manual) so that floor shifter for an automatic would be a hazard to drive.

This otherwise good-looking classic Dodge is truly a huge mess needing an expert’s hand to get it all right again. — It looks like it sold for $4900, which is peanuts for what we see in the photos (body and engine alone) – but without any way to get it to move on its own as is – that would limit the bids considerably, which appears to be what happened here.

I really like the old Dodge pickups. – Hopefully – whoever bought this one will fix all of the myriad problems with the “restoration” and complete the project, and I would look to see it after it’s done and on the road again.

Agree on the kid’s dream restoration. When I was in high school, there was a kid who had a late 50’s Chev pickup. He decided he was going to make a “custom interior” which included a “custom” dash. He proceeded to make a Bondo dash. I don’t think he ever finished it. There must have been 200lbs of Bondo on it the last time I saw it. LOL. BTW, it was confirmed that this one had an auto.

That is funny. — Yep – the truck has an automatic behind the engine – even though the listing says otherwise. — With a stick shifter/boot and nothing else, I suppose you move the lever and hit the gas to determine what gear you’re in. – Not cool. – And without a tachometer, it’s not easy to tell between 2nd gear and Drive until the engine is screaming and you can’t go any faster, which is torture for the engine and tranny. Not sure how the new owner is going to fix that problem.
