When Dodge introduced the “Pilot House” series of trucks in the late 1940s, they offered something that stood apart from the competition, practicality, durability, and better visibility from the cab thanks to the tall greenhouse, style design. Today, these trucks remain some of the most distinctive early postwar pickups, and this 1951 Dodge B2 Pilot House, available now here on Barn Finds, is a great example of an original survivor that’s ready for the next chapter.

This particular truck, located in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, is all-original, featuring its original flathead 6-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller has owned it since 2014, keeping it in dry storage ever since. It was running when parked, and although the motor turns freely, it currently has no spark, which may be as simple as a basic ignition service. Either way, the bones are here for a straightforward revival.

The body and frame are solid overall, a big plus with these workhorses, and the truck presents today in primer. The seller notes that some bodywork has been performed in the past, with patched rear fenders and bondo in places, while the running boards will need replacement. Fortunately, a set of good, rust-free running boards is included with the sale—an extremely hard-to-find item for these trucks. Additional spares include a better tailgate, a new front bed panel, an extra gas tank, and even a good pair of used rear fenders.

Trim pieces are also accounted for, including front and rear bumpers with brackets, headlight rings, parking lights, and the factory hood ornament. The seller also has a stainless steel grille with all the bars intact, which could be restored to show condition with some polish. Inside, the original interior remains intact, giving the truck a true period feel and a solid base for either a sympathetic refresh or a full restoration.

With just over 154,000 miles showing, this Dodge has clearly done its share of honest work, but thanks to careful storage, it has survived in much better shape than most. Pilot House trucks have a loyal following for their rugged simplicity and timeless style, and this example offers a very complete starting point with plenty of valuable extras included.

Whether you’re looking to bring it back as a work-ready farm truck, turn it into a period-correct showpiece, or use it as the foundation for a custom build, this B2 is a rare opportunity at an approachable entry point. At $3,500, it’s hard to imagine a more solid starting place for a classic Dodge pickup project.

For 3500 bucks it’ll probably be gone before I finish typing this!
If it was closer to south Missouri, I’d already be on my way to trailer it home.
+/- 2o hours one way you can knock that out in a long weekend
Not one to disbelieve the owners statements, but how in the world did this truck run up 154,000 miles? The interstate highway system didn’t start until the late 50’s and was pretty much completed by the 90s. Until then unimproved roads were common and the best of them locally were blacktop 2 lane County or State. Even given that, this old truck is not a highway flyer with probably 4:11 gears or close to it. In those days it took decades to clock the 100,000 mile range. These old trucks were usually farm or local work trucks. :-) Terry J
It’s had 74 years to rack up the miles. We’re talking just over 2k mikes per year.
Wow! With the big honkin’ slicks in back and the Mickey Mouse spares in front, this sucker must really GO!
Oh, wait, that’s a tired flathead six… But, maybe it’s got huge valves, hi-compression, a wild cam and the carb is really a disguised FI unit.
Cool, old truck. Just restore it and drive it. At least upgrade the brakes.
I had a 1950 B2B barn find in Vermont 22k nice shape owned it for about 6 years and a guy wanted it more than I did and gave stupid $ for it , now I miss it ! This one looks solid to start with !
Working on my 53 Runs great, lots of work to do, had it over 40 years, 4th owner. it’s a great Pickup.
Made a street rod out of one of these in the 90s. 351 Windsor Ford C4 auto 9″ rear. Put AMC Pacer front suspension under it still have it.
