Reader Travis O was the winning bidder of this 14k mile survivor. He had it shipped from Groveport, Ohio to Northampton, Pennsylvania and once it arrived, he put a few more miles on it. The odometer is currently showing 14,483 miles so he put 391 miles on it to be exact. While it’s in great shape, plans have changed and he needs to find a new home for it. He’s asking $9,500, which is about what he paid for it not even a year ago (not including fees and shipping). From Travis – This unit is loaded with nearly every available option, including the “LT1″ 5.7 liter, 350 cubic-inch V8, 3.08 Posi-Traction (limited-slip) rear axle (code G80), cloth power driver’s front bucket seating and matching, vinyl rear seat, rubber flooring, driver and passenger side factory-installed Unity 6” spotlights, driver and passenger front airbags, factory AM/FM stereo, power windows, power trunk release and power locks. And of course, all the other features of the full 9C1 police package.
To date, this car has only 14,483 actual, documented miles on it. This mileage is GUARANTEED to be true, actual, and correct. This unit was NEVER used for regular police use. This is an excellent example of a very rare and very hard to find car that is not perfect, but very nice and, most importantly, never abused.
It is finished in Bright White with Medium Blue interior. With only 14,483 actual, original miles on it, the interior shows nearly zero wear. It has been extremely well-maintained and it runs, drives and handles as close to new as you will ever find. It has never been abused and it shows.
The trunk compartment is clean, and an original-type Good Year Eagle GT+4, a full-size spare tire is in place. The factory manuals are in place, in the glove box. It recently had a new water pump and Opti-Spark distributor installed. Recently passed Pennsylvania state safety and emission inspections.

It isn’t in perfect condition, with a few bumps and bruises, but if you gave it a good detailing it would look great. I’m not sure if the dent in the front passenger door could be fixed without paintwork, but it would definitely be worth having a paintless dent repair pro take a look at it. Personally, I’d detail it inside and out, treat the underside with POR and put some miles on this Caprice!

I’ve driven many of these ‘back in the day’. Very solid car, and the LT1 is a great motor, except for the issues from the OptiSpark getting leaked on by the water pump or some other source of moisture, is a very reliable engine.
You certainly don’t see many with this kind of mileage thanks to their police usage.
It’s ridiculous how way too tall the side glass/roof is – maybe GM wanted more sales from rich basketball players? Also, the hidden windshield wipers since 1968 are no longer hidden with this gen & ever since. Much less frameless glass.
Imagine what a 2 door would look like in this body “style”.
The ’68 caprice is a masterpiece with its hidden wipers, frameless full door glass styling & optional hidden headlites, advertised/promoted by Chevy!!

You don’t need to be 7 ft tall to have issues with headroom, all it takes is some short arsed legs and a long body to do the trick.

While I appreciate the rarity and survivor status of this car, the styling was awful; this were ugly cars. Just my opinion.
A good buy, considering how long this will last; built for the harshest conditions and sustained abuse… what else compares to it today, even at twice the price? It’s a cool ride.
I drive a 94 Impala daily. Have for thirteen years. They are truly great cars. I’ve 234,000 mile on mine. Never turned a bolt on the engine, but yes the water pump and optispark a handful of time. If you out ethynol free gas in it will return you 20 miles to the gallon for the favor. If you can, buy it. They go like stink and still hold plenty of street cred. Even if some think it looks like a 2 ton jellybean.
For the price and the miles I’d buy it for an everyday car but can’t see babying it or stashing it for the future.
I agree, it would be hard to find a sweet running car in this good of condition for that price. These things had to be way quicker than the crown Vic police interceptor with that LT1. Does it have the optional 870 12 gauge? Ha ha!
All kidding aside this would make a nice driver with plenty of snap.
In a different lifetime I drove taxis here locally and consequently drove more than a few of these after they were retired by the local PD including one 9C1-optioned wagon that began its life as part of the local coroner’s stable of gear.
In a straight line they were surprisingly quick considering their girth but handled like a battleship when the pavement got twisty.
