Budget Style: 1947 Chevy Stylemaster

1947 Chevrolet Stylemaster

Stylemaster has to be one of my all time favorite Chevrolet names. It’s descriptive, catchy, and deceiving. With a name like Stylemaster you would expect this car to be the top of the line model, with the best styling and most standard features. In reality, the Stylemaster was a base model Business coupe without any frills. It does offer lots of exterior style and looks though, but without the top of the line model’s expense. This example is was optioned with the rear seat delete and sun visor, which gives it a little extra style! It looks to be in solid shape and is supposedly running and driving. You can find this master of budget style here on eBay in Alta, California. So what are some of your all time favorite car names?

I’ve never owned one but I always liked the sound of Galaxie. Also, Charger, Impala, Jetstar, and Wildcat were favorite names. Car names that were simply numbers or letters did do much for me such as 98, DB5, GTX, or GT. While the car may have been fun or exciting the name didn’t really make me say, WOW!

This is why I always have a problem with listings that use the word “Base” to describe a car that was never sold as a base model. It may have been at the bottom of the corporate food chain but they would never call their own product a base model. That is what the competitors sell. Things like “Chrysler Imperial base” drive me nuts.

Stylemaster…I love it. Cars of this Era defiantly had style. Cars of today pretty much look alike.

Chevrolet came out with some names that left something to be desired: Confederate, Master, Master Deluxe, Stylemaster, Styleline and Fleetline. Then it upped the ante with Bel Air, Impala and Malibu. My personal choice would be Malibu. I don’t know why it gets to me so much but Malibu is a name I remembered long before Impala or Bel Air. My choice: Malibu!

Have to say first the ’47 Dave did back in the day was one sweet looking ride!
My one name car I always liked and would bring my eyes to attention every time was the Oldsmobile “Starfire”. In my young years age 8 thru 18 and high school we had a neighbor who would every three years trade in her car all Oldsmobiles, and her first Starfire (white) I think was the ’61, a few years go by and she traded in for another new Starfire. (burgundy) and so on. They sure had some beautiful side trim bling back in the day. I also liked the name LeMans, even though it was badged on a lesser expensive “A” body GM car, it just has that race car feel to the name.
