Man, even Porsche 914s are going for serious money these days. Alright, so maybe they aren’t going for big money, but more than they use. It seems even these cars are being brought up by 356 and 911 prices! This example is in need of a lot of work and is already bid up over $2k! And the seller says that if they don’t get a reasonable offer, they will just keep it and restore it themselves. I love threats like this! As if them restoring it and making it a better car makes us scared. I guess the price will go up after the restoration, but if they do a good job it might be worth paying extra for it. If this car didn’t have the damaged driver’s door, I don’t think it would need much to be a nice car. The paint really doesn’t look that bad, I don’t see a bunch of serious rust, and the interior looks complete. It definitely needs a good cleaning, but that’s part of the fun of getting a barn find project. The more I look at it the more I think I’d probably try to get it now, keep the seller from having to do as they threaten, and make a fun little driver out of it. The damage can probably be fixed or a new door found to replace it. Matching the paint could be tricky, but not impossible. Maybe this could be a good buy! After all, Porsche prices are only going to go up, even for less loved models! What do you think?
The seller does not sound like a Porsche guy, which is too bad because his listing could likely be improved with some specific details about the car. I don’t have anything to base this on other than institutional knowledge, but I’m willing to bet that’s a fairly rare color combination. Don’t see too many tan interiors and that exterior color – if original – may make the car a bit rarer than your average 914. Purely a guess.
It’d look great with a mismatched door and fender on it (I vote white). Show up at your local PCA meet and park it next to the most over-restored 356/911 you can find.

Porsche Red with tan interior, and when the twin dellorto carbs were not on fire in the rear window… It was almost a fun car to drive! J-U-N-K!!

Good deal if it stays under $5K. Nothing special here, all those interiors and exterior colors were standard in one form or another. This one has it’s needs, and if the rust isn’t too bad shouldn’t be too difficult to restore. The lack if title is the kicker… even though there are ways around it, some states (like PA where I am) are getting more savvy about title services and frequently deny the transfer.
If I am seeing the color correctly, that IS a Porsche optional color. I had one I restored a few years back that had that goldi’ish color and upon checking it out, it required a special order and a few bucks more, but was on the list of colors. If it does have the 2.0 motor and the battery box is not rusted too badly underneath, this could make a nice car. Seems the prices are creeping up on them now, which is really no surprise.
