EXCLUSIVE: 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400

Seller Description: Here’s my 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400, 4-speed, factory Deluxe interior, hood tach, power steering, power brake Convertible – for sale! I’ve owned this car since 2003 and have babied ever since! In 2010 I completed a frame-on-restoration which included media blasting, body work, prime and paint. All parts such as emblems, belt moldings, etc… were replaced with OER parts from Classic Industries (I have the invoices to prove it). I’ve done my best to restore and keep the car as close to original and period correct as possible. To include the replacement front windshield, as even the Libbey Owens Ford etch in the right front corner is correctly date coded. All four rally wheels are those that came with the car in 1969 and which are clearly date coded. Presently there’s an Edelbrock Performer Intake with Holley 650 carb, however, I have an original date coded Rochester Carburetor. This car is A LOT of fun to drive and gets attention wherever it goes. I’m not interested with any trades and will respectfully ask for serious inquires only. Thank you!

Ray’s Firebird might not be a survivor, but it looks to be an extremely nice car and would be an absolute blast to cruise around in! I wouldn’t mind having it parked in my garage right now. Special thanks to Ray for listing his Pontiac with us! Be sure to message him via the form below if you’d like to have it sitting in your garage! And if you have a beautiful classic in your garage, shed or barn that needs a new home, please consider listing it here on Barn Finds.

Recently I saw a 69 Trans Am convertible. My first reaction was IS IT REAL owner admitted it was a clone. Still it was nice to see. Nobody seemed to know how rare they were.

Actually 8 Trans Am convertibles were made. Someone who had a muscle car collection in the town I live in owned one that I saw in the 90’s. His collection was featured in MuscleCar Review in 1996. I believe all 8 are out there and accounted for.

Why would the windshield be etched with the dealership name, and how would a Ford dealership be correct for a GM?

What a pleasure to see a car with a realistic listing price, in fact maybe a little low for a change! Beautiful example of a Firebird convertible that someone took great care of.

Great car. Nice to see in original color and still having the correct 400 pieces. I’d buy if it was closer.

I have a fondness for first generation Firebirds having owned two of them many years ago. Both were very nice but not into this league.

Great looking car at a reasonable price, you cant beat older muscle cars for looks and character. Not to mention stump pulling torque. :)))
Someone will be smiling when they get behind the wheel of this beauty.

Got to drive/wrench on a ’69-400-4 on the floor-convertible a few months ago. A TRUE muscle car in every sense! 100% badass.
Just hope you don’t have to find a water pump for one. It’s a mega rare short snout pump.

Very nice example of a 400 Bird Convertible. If it were mine, I’d install the factory sport steering wheel, an original style Pontiac AM/FM radio, and perhaps the factory center console along with the original style shifter, and shift knob.

This one is way too nice to make a T/A Convertible clone out of……..

A guy I worked with brought back a 1969 convertible, same as this only the green with black inside from North CA. He got it right out of the service, It was 100% rust free. He rebuilt the engine and bought all kinds of new chrome etc., for this car and that was at least 25 years ago, and it’s still never been on the road.

I owned a ’68 Firechicken convertible for about 20 years. Nowhere near the condition of this car. The asking price is more than realistic. Its basically paying for the restoration and getting the car for almost nothing. GLWS.

I think your asking price is underpriced. I have had a number of these and if I am an expert on any car it would be 67-69 Firebirds. If this is a true 400 4 sp conv numbers matching car, if I read everything correctly, and your car and restoration is as nice behind the scenes and underneath your SELLING price should be in the mid 30’s. Asking price I think should be 39K without looking at it, in this current market. If your mileage were lower and if your restoration were a bit more detailed, and it is very nice…..I am not knocking your car, it would be worth even more. Fully rebuilt drive train, frame off or close too it type of resto the car would sell in the $40-45K range to the right buyer.

Tom, do you know whether this car ever sold? Just wondering.

I bought a 1969 convertible last spring that I am in the process of restoring. From your comments you seem pretty knowledgeable about first gen Firebirds.

Well Thanks Tom for slowing that sale down… Really like the car! I wanted a first year Trans Am in White with the little thin blue stripes, prices are beyond my interest. One of these is a perfect compromise imo. The drivetrains are bulletproof and all about torque and with 4 speed fun?!? Nice package! If I see closer to being my own roof with a barn (no room) I think I’d jump, even faster on a hardtop. Sorry the convertible is fun for a while but the lines are destroyed without the steel roof # 1 way too heavy vs hardtop #2 they bend and flex like a loose wagon. Excessive weight and weaker doesn’t go with torque and fun around corners.
I can’t thank you all enough for posting the car and warming up my Old Poncho heart. Even better when it was at 25k 🤣😂🤣😂
