EXCLUSIVE: 1974 Volkswagen Beetle

The VW Beetle has to be one of the most recognizable cars ever built. No matter where you take one of these cars, just about every person you encounter will have a story that involves one. There is something truly enduring about the simplistic yet “cute” design that makes them strangely appealing. Reader James K has slowly been restoring this 55k mile 1974 Beetle, but the time has come to let it go. Hopefully, it finds a good home with a reader who will finish it up and enjoy it! It’s currently located in John Day, Oregon and you can contact James via the form below!

Asking Price: $10,000
Location: John Day, Oregon
Mileage: 55,042
Title Status: Salvage
VIN: 1342419616

Seller’s Description: Almost completely refurbished. I have new trim pieces and misc parts that go with it. It still needs a new headliner.

Body Condition: The body is excellent and has a new paint job. Has always been stored in my shop while being refurbishing.

Mechanical Condition: Motor runs well, but there are some minor oil drips. Tires are like new, tranny seems OK, and the original brakes work.

There doesn’t appear to be much left to do to make this Bug a fun driver. Parts are readily available, so finding and installing a new headliner shouldn’t be much of an issue. We would give it a good cleaning, install new brakes, tune-up the engine and just drive the heck out it as is. Down the road, if the oil leak gets worse or if there’s a need for more power, a performance engine swap isn’t all that difficult or expensive and would make it even more fun to zip around in! So, do you have fond memories of the Beetle?

Do you have a sweet classic that needs to go? Please consider listing it here on Barn Finds and we will do our best to find a good home for it!

Headliner is a big deal. Windows and trim mead to come out. It’s a 74 super beetle. It has engine oil leaks. It has a salvage title. All big deals. At today’s inflated VW prices, this may be worth 4-5k at most.

$10K and a Salvage title? You better explain why there is a salvage title. Lots of people won’t touch a car with a salvage title.

First of all, I’ve been around a while and never heard of a low mileage VW Bug. They just got used to death. Even an original bug with 55K miles would be on it’s second set of brakes. The salvage title is just the topper.

Salvage title makes this a very questionable item. 10k is cRaZiE

Cars exactly like this with clean titles are often for sale in Tennessee for $6000.

    Wow another overpriced exclusive.
Probably the least desirable era for beetles, personally I’d never buy one newer than a 66 I’m a sucker for Porsche style headlight pods.
    10k rotflol!

Salvage Title… I would offer $2500., if I were interested, but I don’t like bugs newer than ’72.
