EXCLUSIVE: 1991 Ford Taurus SHO W/ Partial Plus Package

Update: Scott has dropped his asking price from $3,500 to $2,500!

From The Seller: This 1991 Taurus SHO 5-speed was purchased by a Ford employee (Worked for Ford for forty years). He had a small collection of classic Fords and this was one of his daily drivers. It’s all stock with no modifications and was garage kept until last year. It has been under a carport since then. The original owner passed away last year and I purchased the car from the estate. It’s a west coast car with no rust or no sun damage inside or out. I have all records since new. No dents, dings, or paint damage. No interior flaws, or cracks. Nonsmoker, no pets. 100% survivor car. Runs flawless, everything works except the stereo (have not figured out why yet).

Apparently, in ’91 only the Taurus SHO was offered a package called the PLUS package consisting of several cosmetic upgrades. Also offered was a partial PLUS package, meaning it only had a couple of upgrades. This is supposed to be a partial Plus car (has the fiberglass power bulge hood) and one other trim upgrade. It has ALL the options that I know of and really is a well-preserved piece of Ford history. They are only original once as they say. Even the leather wrap on the steering wheel and shifter is in excellent shape. The only things I know the car could use are a new strut arm for the hood to hold it up and some new rear shocks. Fronts have been replaced. That is it… Own a super nice original SHO for $5,500 or best offer. Must sell. Clean title in hand. I have been working on, building and restoring American cars and trucks for over 50 years. My call on this car is 100%. You will not be disappointed.

This sounds like a great find and we hope it goes to someone who appreciates fast Fords. You can contact Scott using the form below.

Whenever two very different companies get together to build a car, the result is always interesting to say the least.

You had a car powered by an engine derived from Yamaha’s legendary V-Max, so you knew that it wasn’t going to be a slug.

I remember these well and drove a few. That engine was beautiful and had a wonderful sound..quality was pretty good after all it is a Taurus. These could hang with the Mustang and Camaro at that time and would spank some of the germans offerings. This one is just right..and plenty of photos too

It’s refreshing to see the great detail the seller went to with his presentation and multiple pictures! Personally, even with the miles, you can see that this was a well loved and well cared for SHO! Reasonable price for a nice collectible car that you can also enjoy some quality behind the wheel time!

I’m sorry, but the seller’s idea of “excellent shape” is different from mine; with respect to the leather on the front seats, steering wheel, and shifter knob. Otherwise, a nice example of Ford daring to be different! GLWTS!! :-)

I had a 92, 5-speed, it was fun to drive. This could be a good low-cost collector car for a family who needs something to double as a back-up car to pick up the kids (or grandkids) from school.

I’ve liked these since tghey first came out. MY daily driver was an ”89 and in 1991 I raced one in IMSA. Endurance races from 6-24 hour races. Pretty reliable machines and quick too

My ’91 SHO looked exactly like this one. I got it from a Ford dealership in ’92 with only 12K miles on it and it was loaded with everything. I never saw the window sticker, so not sure what the PLUS package even was, but mine had a fiberglass hood, for sure.

I believe this car recently sold on Craigslist for $800. Someone stands to make a tidy profit!

Second best car I ever owned. Raced camaros even up with buddies in the back seat.
Last year I picked up an upper intake at a swap meet for garage art

Had one of these. Great driving car and nicely equipped inside but there were compromises (as you’d expect) in converting a mass marketed commuter car to a high end specialty vehicle. There is a 60K mile service that’s priced at about 1/2 or more of what they are asking for the car. Assuming (hate that word) that it was done on time it will be due another at 120K. Buyer needs to factor that in.

There is no such thing as a “Partial Plus”. It’s a Plus or it’s not.. Period.

“Plus”, there is only one way to determine if a ’91 SHO is truly a Plus. The Emerald Green paint color was only used on the Plus in 1991. If you own an Emerald Green ’91 it’s a Plus. Any other color could be a standard SHO with some of the Plus features added at a later date.

Did all SHO’s come with a hood made out of something other than metal? I’m pretty positive that my ’91 had a hood that was much lighter and had a “plasticy” feel to it.

At what point are you just better off donating the car to a charity?

The SHO for this year used a plastic hood.
There were some “partial Plus” models built. An emerald green paint was offered only on the SHO and the white ones such as this one could be had with the optional “slicer” wheels like this one.
The engine was built by Yamaha but it wasn’t based on the VMax engine. It was based on Ford’s own 3.0 L Vulcan engine.

Knew people who had and loved them. Wish I could have driven one. Had a regular 89 wagon for work. Didn’t stand up to field service and the weight we carried, but was still a fun car. The seats sucked but could drift it in the rain..hit a pothole on the white line and it took out the rack. The next one leaked, so it took a 3rd and I got in trouble? Really? Not my fault. A pothole in PA in the dark? Duh.

Looks like it still has the cable shifter unfortunately… I believe all plus’ got the more desirable rod shifter that was made standard in ‘92. I had a green plus once upon a time.. as well as a ‘92 and an ‘89!
