Farm Fresh: 1939 Ford 1/2 Ton Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This truck is a little rough around the edges, as most things that are eighty years old tend to be.  Found in the far north east corner of the state of Montana, it is said to have been stored in a barn for over fifty years!  The truck is for sale here on eBay with a current bid of $4,600.  If you’re in the market for a rare pre-war project, this may be the perfect one for you.  With strong bidding, the seller should be happy with the progress already.

The interior is what you would expect from a truck like this.  The driver’s side of the split windshield is broken which has allowed some outside elements in, although it doesn’t look any worse than it should.  The upholstery is obviously broken down and in need of complete restoration.  It looks like the gauges and steering wheel are stock and untouched.  This truck seems like a true and honest farm survivor.

You can see more of the original green paint in this photo.  This truck appears to have led a working life.  The front bumper is a custom piece as is the strapping from the bedside to the rear fender.  It also appears the driver’s side front fender has been hammered back into shape after some sort of mishap.  This truck is definitely rough, but based on the strong bidding there is a lot of interest in this truck.  I hope the seller and buyer are both happy with the outcome.

Sorry but that’s not acceptable IMO. Looks to me like they tried to cut in early 50’s Caddy rear fenders and the headlights and bumper are just plain turnoff to me the way it was executed.

Ebay ad says it it located in Ventor City New Jersey. Sellers comments say Plentywood Montana. Which is it?

      ..and that’s being polite!

This proves that all not old customs were necessarily things of beauty.

Beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder. This truck may not appeal to all, but it can grow on you. The grills doesn’t appear to be broken, fenders are not mangled, tail gate is on truck just to mention a few pluses this old truck has going for it. Ugly you say. Maybe to some, beauty to others.

This a rare find. Only ’38 and ’39 and I believe, the ’39 was the 1st Ford pickup with juice brakes. I went to an auction in upstate NY, and 2 hood sides came up from one of these, with the “Ford 85” badge. Friend bought one as wall art. Bet someone restoring a ’38-9 truck could have used those. Many were removed for added cooling. Hope it gets restored to original.

Just about guarantee you it won’t. No Ford restorer would pay $6000.00 for this not so rare truck. It’s gonna be a hotrod.

That’s a neat old green truck. Stabilize the surface rust, preserve the patina and get it running. It’ll be as much fun as these old things can be, which isn’t much compared to a newer rig. But it will be cool.
