Father Of The King: 1966 Dodge Coronet

Think of your favorite movie star. Or the singer you have the most albums from (ok, referencing vinyl either makes me a hipster, or just plain old. I’ll let you decide). Now, think of that person’s parents. Not something we do much of, is it? Thinking of who brought an artist into our world. I liken that process to this wonderful 1966 Dodge Coronet, thanks to reader Matt W, who found it here on eBay.

So why the “parent of the famous” reference? I see this wonderfully refurbished, ready to drive ’66 Coronet as the parent of a much more desired, loved (and expensive) off-spring – the 1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee. I could easily spend the rest of this post talking in reverence about the 1968 to 1970 beauties (unequivocally the best breed of the Coronet family in my opinion), but instead let’s focus on this father figure.

This Yellow (that’s the fancy name the Dodge boys gave it) example looks to be in great shape, after having only 2k on a rebuilt motor, and pictures of the history it has of work and maintenance. A few rips and tears in the massive front bench seats, but the rear bench seems to be in amazingly fine shape. The trunk, sporting the original “5 over 2” black and white plaid pattern, looks like it could double as a tiny home by today’s standards, and is full of reconditioned parts to finish up the rehab of the brake and suspension systems.

Most importantly, if you look hard, you can see the beginnings of the Coronets greatest generation – with the birth of a new muscle stance, the hulking front and back, and the widened body that flowed from early to late fifth generations. As a time capsule of this era, this pristine survivor deserves its place next to the throne in my opinion!

    Sold already – for $7000.

      Incorrect.
It was a no sale, no bid at the $7000 ask.

Too high for a 4 door, IMO.

Then there’s nothing to say. Someone was smart.

The old 1966 Gotham City official police vehicle

Lovely looking Coronet. My favourite years for the Dodge Coronet are 1966 and 67. Pics hardly do it justice. If only I could see the car personally.

Did you ever think you’d see the day when a 67 Coronet 4 door sedan equipped with a 318 poly would sell for $7k? When I think of some of the cars I scrapped in the late 70s/early 80s…

US built Chrysler Corp cars had the LA 318 with wedge heads for 67.

I’ve seen my share of Dodge Coronets over the years, but none this nice. I suppose if I lived in Colorado, where this car lives, I might be able to see it. Unfortunately, I live nowhere near there. I’m from Tacoma, Washington.

Funny when the market gets scarce the four doors start looking better!

I compare it to beer goggle personally when
one day one wakes up its a four
    door family vehicle 😉

Then the drive of shame happens!

While the 2 door 500 hardtop is more stylish, I believe that a 4 door Coronet are more practical.

I just found this car in Mexico for about the same price. I think this one is a better deal. It is a 318 automatic 2 door hardtop car.

This is the side view. This is another guy that doesn’t know how to take picture of a car.
