This 1960 Chevrolet Corvette is claimed to be a first-month build of the model. There are no miles listed, but the title is said to be clean. Located in Chandler, Indiana, the buy it now price is set at $33,000. Current bids have it at $20,000 with the reserve not yet met. The listing is getting many views an hour and has 63 people watching it, so the car is garnishing a lot of attention. You can view more here on eBay.
According to the listing, the seller is unsure if the 283 engine that is in the car, is the original engine. They state that the carburetor and intake look to be from a younger model. It is a four-speed manual with a 3:36 rear end. A new radiator and hoses have been installed and the brakes have been tended to from top to bottom. After sitting for nearly 30 years, the car is surprisingly stated to run and drive.
Inside this convertibles interior is, there. For what it is worth, the listing states the car has newer carpet and seat covers. The listing also states that some of the gauges are not working. Things that have vanished from the car are the jack, radio, front bumpers, top and interior pieces. Anything that the seller has in terms of parts are shown in pictures in the listing. The hood is stated to be an aftermarket hood.
This car, as all Corvettes go, is subject to scrutiny. The fiberglass body won’t rust, but the frame, suspension, shock tower mounts, wheel wells, they all rust. The amount of missing trim and pieces, the necessary parts and labor to restore the car are up to great debate and subject to interpretation. What the seller had planned was a restomod build. Agree, disagree, or agree to disagree, that seems to be a Corvette.
Interesting to watch this go. Not a lot of pics of the underbelly, but whats shown is solid. Birdcage insp a must. yep this one in non matching numbers, but frame seems solid. Trade off as there are so many with rotten frames around. Will be interesting to watch. Not a ‘vette expert,, what do you guys think??
Cheers

“The fiberglass body won’t rust, but the frame, suspension, shock tower mounts, wheel wells, they all rust.”
The 53-62 frames really don’t have the rust issues, that the 63-82 frames do. The rear crossmember is known to rust, but since it’s a bolt in part, it’s not a big deal. I can’t say that I’ve ever heard about suspension or shock towers rusting out, and the wheel wells are fiberglass. There’s very little birdcage in the early cars, and what little there is, rarely suffers from rust.
The seller says he’s “sure it’s not the original engine, but it could be”. He should have stopped with it’s not the original engine, because it’s not. The “C” in the engine stamping indicates that it’s a 60 283/170 2bbl, out of a passenger car. “C” was not used as a suffix code for Corvette engines.
$32,000 doesn’t seem too bad for the car, especially considering the asking price of some cars out there. I’ve seen worse cars sell for more.
Check the frame rails; the missing bumper and apparent bodywork in the front indicate a small crash.
Are those dog dish hubcaps from the same source as the motor?
