Flying Brick: 1969 Intermeccanica Murena GT

1969 Intermeccanica Murena GT

While surfing deep into the heart of eBay, I spotted a listing that caught my attention. The main photo was of a VIN tag, so that wasn’t of particular interest, but the name next to it was. Intermeccanica is best known for it’s lovely sports cars, like the Italia, but the company actually built some other rather interesting machines. Seeing as I’ve always been a fan of the brand, I just had to check it out. I’ve heard of the Murena GT but never seen one. I figured it would be something curvaceous and beautiful. Boy was I in for a surprise! When I clicked on it, I didn’t find what I was expecting, instead I found this brick on wheels! Now the styling might not be stellar, but these are actually quite incredible machines! Only eleven were built and all received a high performance 429 V8, leather upholstery, and enough room to haul all your favorite junk! Take a look at this rare find here on eBay in Inglewood, California with bidding up to $17,000.

All done up, these flying bricks don’t look to bad, although the rear proportions are a bit strange. You wouldn’t expect it to have a massive V8, but then again that hood is quite long! While I was a bit surprised at first by the styling, it has really grown on me. I really would love to have this car! I’m sure it’s going to be a massive project and finding trim and interior pieces will be a nightmare. As soon as you fire up that V8 and do a massive burnout, it will be worth all the work!

I am a bit curious why the seller didn’t provide any photos of the engine bay, so hopefully the engine is still with it. They did get lots of photos of that awkward rear end though! So would you save this oddball Intermeccanica?

Hope they put more thought in the mechanicals than they did in the S/N tag

All it needs is a good cleaning! Pfft! I actually wouldn’t mind a car from this make. The name just sounds cool.

Judging from the front stance, my guess is the only thing under that hood is a whole lot of nothing!

Great little breadbox car when new. Many were used to deliver pizzas. A bit slower than the Ferrari with their V12 equipped machines LOL.

The rear styling was ugly on a Yugo and worse here.

But that side profile makes up for the rear end.

thought id seen this car before – appeared with our good friends at BaT back in 2010, seems no-one could be arsed to take new pictures as they are identical pictures from 5 years ago, which would worry me if its been sat in the same place out in the open….

These photos have been on the Internet for years. They were on a craigslist advertisement, and a couple of eBay listings. I was interested in buying it back then. I have tried to get photos of the engine compartment, but the lister never responds. It just makes me wonder.

The eBay description even lifts the BAT write up almost verbatim

When I hear Flying Brick I can only think of the BMW watercooled inline 3 and 4 cylinder bikes

Same pictures I remember from an eBay ad years ago. Will it actually sell this time? The bids are much higher than in the past.

I personally think it is an exceptionally cool wagon. Italian, low volume and big block ford. I’d go for it if the listing wasn’t already closed and if not for the sketchy listing info described above.
