The BMW E30 generation M3 has been making a lot of noise in the news lately, with several ultra-low mileage examples fetching well into the six figures at auction. Having one or two go for this kind of money makes these already desirable cars even more sought after. As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats and that definitely is true for the M3. At one time, it didn’t make financial sense to restore one, but that’s really no longer the case. So, if you are as lucky as reader Zach K to find one sitting in a garage, you’d be smart to buy it just like he did with this one!

Zach believes he is the car’s 4th owner. When he found it, it was parked in a garage, but prior to that, it had actually been left outside in Long Island. While it looks pretty good now that it’s been cleaned off, but it’s actually in need of extensive restoration. Not only does Zach have to repair lots of rust, but he also has to try and track down an engine and transmission for it. And that’s where things are going to get interesting, as the E30 M3 is powered by the S14 four-cylinder engine. This high revving engine is only found in E30 M3s, so they aren’t particularly easy to find. With any luck, he will be able to track down a complete engine for it so that he can get this one back on the road!

This will be a big project, but I won’t lie, I’m a little jealous of him! These are incredible machines to drive and while it’s going to be a ton of work, in the end, it will be well worth it.
