If you look up the definition of “vintage work truck” in the dictionary, you might see the above photo. I’m sure this 1930 Ford Pickup could tell some stories. Found here on eBay with a current bid of $710, the truck may be turn out to be a real bargain. Located in Palm Desert, California, this truck looks ready to start the next chapter in its life.
Check out that leaf pack! What do you think the payload of this truck is? It probably rides rougher than Pogo Stick but could haul a house. The ad states it has a PTO (Power Take Off) which operates a winch on the front of the bed. The seller also has another pair of wheels and tires to convert the truck to a dually. It sounds ready to haul whatever you can throw at it.
The interior is certainly bare-bones. The seller has put new windshield and rear glass in it along with reupholstering the seat. There is no photo of the engine but it is said to be a “good running truck” and the brakes work fine.
It looks like there have been some repairs done. I’m not sure if it was the beginning of a restoration or if the seller was just getting it more presentable for sale? The fenders look like they have been beaten straight along with new hood sides, headlights and some rust repair. If the bidding stays relatively low, this may be a great project for someone. What do you think?
My Uncle George on my dsd’s side had one of these back in the 50’s. His had side boards though So his five kids could ride in back without falling out. I remember riding in the back onetime, my cousins were a few years older than me and could see over the top of the cab while standing up hanging onto the front of the wooden cattle rack. What crazy times that was in Northern California.
Holey Kow, that’s the Chuck Bronson of leaf spring stacks!
I’m familiar with the Model AA trucks. Didn’t know “Model B” was used as a designation until 1932 for the non-flathead blue oval passenger cars (???)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is an AA. The model B came out in 1932.
I don’t mean to get technical here, but that’s a Model-A, AA. The B didn’t come out until ’32. The big truck for ’32 would be a ‘BB.’ The designation came out during the Model T era when the designated the larger trucks as ‘TT,’ meaning ‘T–Truck. They kept the designation similar until ’35 when the entire designation labeling was revised.
All that aside, I love the truck. Clean it up, do a driver-quality restoration, and put it to work. Sure wouldn’t kick it off my driveway…
Thanks Geo, knew I could count on you!
Yeah, but considering that naming system, what a hit a “38-DD” would have been! Or, maybe not, then I guess it could have been simply a big bust . . .
Sigh… Take your thumbs up….
Love it, wish I had room for it! Wonder what the reserve is on it since they reference $6950 in the ad. If that’s what they have put into it along with whatever it cost in the first place, bet they’re looking for a pretty penny. Strange but not so much as 1 engine photo either.
I’m somewhat disappointed in the lack of an engine pic. Hopefully they just thought it wasn’t worth showing, so I’ll believe (for now) that they took that angle instead of the ‘Super Phantom Power Plants’ (AKA completely missing engines) that has been the case with so many of the muscle cars. One thing that you can count on in case you do need an engine: there are lots of A engines in good shape for sale at a reasonable price. And if you have an adventuresome streak, you could even drop in a flathead V-8. Now, did I say that in my outside voice?
Hey, we’re getting better. No one suggested a Cummins diesel yet. These always looked odd to me, like the tires were too big for the body.
Howard A, I did think diesel, just didn’t say anything!
I would love to have it in the driveway looking just the way it is with just enough work to make it my to work and back vehicle. It would give me the chance to rebuild my 36 MapleLeaf.
Very cool truck, wished it was mine! I would never sell it, I would make improvements update some things and enjoy driving it wherever I went!
Badass! I’m a Chevy guy, but man, I would drive that critter and haul junk with it with a smile on my face and the dog on the seat on the passenger side.
