No Reserve Project: 1970 Triumph TR6

Sitting in a field in the dry climate of Lubbock Texas, this 1970 Triumph TR6 is being sold at no reserve. The body and frame look restorable and it appears to have its original 2.5 liter six cylinder engine. There are not a lot of good pictures of the interior but the body and engine pictures can be seen here on eBay. The Triumph is being sold with no reserve and is bid to $1,275.

The TR6 was produced in Coventry, England from 1968 to 1976. The TR6’s were powered by a 150 bhp six cylinder straight six engine that was fed through a carburetor for US versions. The UK versions were fuel injected. The TR6 delivered its power through a 4 speed manual transmission that featured an electronic overdrive. These cars were fun to drive and very popular in the 1970’s and even after there were no longer produced.

While priced cheap, this TR6 will need work. The car is painted in Signal Red and has some bumps and bruises. The floorboards and trunk will need replacement but the frame still looks solid. The bumpers on the car also look pretty good. The car was relatively light and quick with a recorded 0-60 time of approximately 8 seconds and could reach a top speed of 110 mph to 120 mph on a good day.

Bidding end soon so check it out and see if this is the project you have been looking for. Parts for these are not cheap and the only extra parts mentioned is 2 carburetors. So while this car cannot handle an LS swap, is this a project for you?

Must be TR6 month. These cars came with the twin carbs but were heavily smogafied. If you don’t live in California you can pull the smog gear off, rejet and retune the carbs, change the distributor advance curve and gain a bunch of extra horsepower and torque. Looks rough around the edges but if that frame is good any needed body panels are available for a rebuild.

Between all the TR3’s, 4’s and 6’s suddenly coming to light here, bobhess, I think the BF staff is using subliminal messaging on we readers by helping us to think “Triumph!” in a tough time of history..and that’s ok by me! 👍🏻

Love your optimism, it’s what will get us through this, however, it’s a bit unusual to use a car that’s out of business for that. Triumph indeed. Sold for $2300, or so. Great parts car for someone ( no O/D, tho) but with all the cars coming out, you’d be foolish to try and save this one.

The first UK cars had fuel injection, but because of problems, carburettors were then used.

Hey, the frame looks great, but isn’t that picture taken from above where the floor pan should be? I thought I knew my Triumphs but I had to stare at that picture for a fair amount of time to figure out what I was seeing. Better buy it know before someone starts the rumor that some of those famous Lubbock Texas Crickets are included with the car. I am a big fan of “all things Triumph”. The large wheel/tires really set the TR6 apart from MG of the same era.
