Original 4×4: 1968 Chevrolet K10

1968 Chevy K10 Shortbed

The seller of this short bed Chevy 4×4 claims it is highly original, but I’m not so sure about that. Obviously the wheels and tires aren’t original, but the seller comments on that in their description, plus those aren’t terribly difficult things to fix. The paint also leaves me wondering what’s happening here. It looks quite shiny for an old work truck, plus the bed and cab don’t quite match. The seller claims the two were painted separately at the factory and that it is original. I’m not a Chevy truck expert though, so do any of you know if that really was the case? Whether or not the paint is original or not, this is actually a really nice truck. The interior doesn’t look bad at all!

And the 327 V8 looks to be in nice shape as well! While it isn’t the biggest engine offered in the K10, it’s one of the bigger ones and offers a decent helping of horsepower.

Clearly there are a few bidders who would love to have this black plate truck. It makes sense though, when was the last time you saw a shortbed 4×4 with a V8 and a 4 speed in this nice of shape?

    Wow I had one of these but not totally original , it was a long bed 327 / Auto and was originally orange with white top but I painted it during restoration 95 Mustang chrome yellow with a spray in bed liner. It was the coolest truck in our small town. I sold it in 2001 for $10,500. I know it’s a little more original and a shortbed but to me it sold way over priced to be used for it’s purpose which mine was used daily to haul wood and pull car trailer.

      The 4 speed is s big deal. So is the short bed. Completely different than a long/auto.

    I had a ’68 with a long bed, 250 six and 3spd on the floor. Bought it in ’78 for $50 and drove it for over 10 yrs. A beast. This one is nice, can’t believe what it sold for. I don’t believe the separate paint thing. Look at the side view pic, the bed lines don’t line up with the cab lines. To me the bed’s been off for something or replaced.

    When these were built, a 4×4 most often turned up in some kind of specialized commercial service. Even ranchers and the Forest Service made do with 4×2 versions. It would be very interesting to see 4×4 vs 4×2 production numbers, let alone 3-speed vs 4-speed.

    Bought this ’68 short bed from the original owner’s grandson 6 years ago. Sold it for 9k 2 years ago. Original orange color but repainted and new interior. Completely original running gear. Not perfect but a super nice truck.

      I wish I could find this nice of a truck at this kind of price. My son is almost 13 and wants an orange pick-up. I’d get it now and enjoy it myself for a few years. But no way he’s getting something in the $20K+ range.

      He eventually will get my ’62 Healey, but that’s years from now… And he’ll have to pay his sister 1/2 the value. But I may “loan” him a truck when he’s 16 or 17. He’s a good kid (straight A student and already well on his way to Eagle in Scouts, so a truck to go camping with as he gets older is a necessity).

        Here’s one I’ve had my eye on for a while. Lots of rust though but I prefer step sides and love the rallye orange ones. Still negotiating. He also has a ’72 long bed with factory AC and a really nice body but missing engine and trans.

    These trucks are going the way of the ’60’s Camaros and Mustangs. The ’67’s, with the shaved hood, then the 68’s through 72’s are going for mad money. I probably owned 20 to 25 of these starting back before I had my license. I saved up and bought a 68 S/W when I was 13 or 14. My father helped me completely rebuild it top to bottom then I built a “paint booth” from plastic sheet and PVC and repainted it back to it’s original orange with white top. Turned out pretty good for my first full vehicle paint job. Sold it when I was 21. You can find ragged out, stripped down examples going for $5k.

    I can’t tell for sure but that hood looks more like a ’67 than a ’68, grill too. The front edge of the ’67’s had a more laid back front edge where as the ’68 through ’72 had an almost vertical front edge. Very possible that Chevy used left over ’67 stock on early 68’s. Parts are pretty much interchangeable across all year models.

    hi guys, hey I found a 67 chevy 1/2 ton 4×4 short fleetside, only 1000,47 were made, from the build sheet, its number 20 off the the line 1-20-1967 its all complete all original, I am just cleaning the whole truck up. what would someone pay for it? mike
