Original Paint: 47k Mile 1970 Dodge Charger

This 1970 Dodge Charger is being sold at no reserve here on eBay. The Charger is located near St. Louis, Missouri and is said to be wearing its original FY4 light gold metallic paint with a black vinyl roof and interior. The car is currently bid to $10,000 with 3 days remaining in the auction. The seller reports that the odometer reads 47,000 miles and is selling the car as is except for the wheels and tires. He is going to switch the wheels and tires out for steelies and tires that hold air. The car is a project and the pictures indicate quite a bit of rust and decay on the underside of the Charger.

This is an original bench seat Charger with a column shifted automatic transmission. The seller states that the buzzer still comes on when you stick the key in the ignition. The story is that the car was bought new in early 1971 as a leftover from the prior year by two little old ladies and the car was taken off the road in 1982. This car is equipped with factory air conditioning and the dash is cracked. As stated, the car will need a complete restoration with new carpet, seat covers, foam, dash, and probably a new headliner. The door panels may be able to be saved and cleaned up.

The 318 cubic inch V8 engine is a nonmatching numbers motor and transmission. While it is a project, the 318 cubic inch V8 engine is in running condition and is said to start up and run smoothly. The brakes and a number of other vital systems will need to be rebuilt. The frame rails are said to be solid except for one area on the driver’s side rear wheel area.  The passenger side corner of the torsion rail is damaged and rusted beyond repair. The rear quarters are rusty and the lower rockers are showing rust too.

The body looks fairly straight with a few dings here and there. With the right work, this car could be restored and returned to stock or a restomod depending on your tastes. With 42 bids, the Charger is gaining some attention and appears to be salvageable so it can be restored.

Appearances can be deceiving. Body wise, this Charger isn’t so bad (compared to recent finds that have shown up!!), but underneath looks really rough. Rust you can see (through, LOL!) means there’s always more that you can’t! Currently at $10,100, it’s going to need a LOT of love and $$$ to restore!
    GLWTA!! :-)

Oh, BTW, it comes with steelies. Why not just list the thing as pictured? Did he really have to make it look better? This pig didnt need the lipstick (we all know it wouldve sold anyway). When the dust settles, there will be more than enough to replace it. Cragars arent rare nor are they scarce. Leave ’em on!

It’s funny how certain colors grow on a person over the years. I like the gold here with the black top, more lately it seems. I like the wheels on the car now as well, what a selling trick that is, which I hate for personal reasons. I wonder what car will have these sharp looking wheels next, and so on and so on.
With old looking steelies and four bald tires it begans to look more like a cash for clunkers escapee.

Agree with Troy and What you see about switching the wheels & tires. It’s a D-bag seller trick made worse by the fact that the car isn’t cheap nor are the wheels rare.

My grandparents had a Charger, not sure if it was a ‘70 or not, that was this color complete with the vinyl top. It was the only non GM vehicle they ever owned and why they bought it I’ve never figured out. If the write up hadn’t included the part of the two little old ladies buying it as a holdover I would’ve believed this was their old car.

I love these cars. Tempting but nine years of work. It makes you want to hot rod it. Fix everything and put a hellcat engine in it.

@ Patrick Farmer ; And That is exactly what I’m doing to my 68 !
It was in much better shape, only a bit of rust on the quarters, perfect floors and frame.Mine was also 318 culomn shift, white on blue.
Coming to a show near you as a triple black RT with a breathed on Hellcat /6 speed stick with the whole Gerst suspension package !
Someone will rescue this featured car as well, this hobby will never run out of optimists which is a very good thing.

Weird. This car is more rotten inside and underneath than up top.
