My Grandfather told me never to buy a car that had just been washed, because (like swimsuit models) they always look better when wet. In the case of this 1958 Cadillac Sedan deVille, the water simulates clear-coated patina. This Riverside, California classic seeks a new owner here on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $5800.
Though not running, this car sat idle “for a few decades,” and luckily the engine turns freely. From the seller’s description and picture it’s clear that most of the glass will need to be replaced. More good news… there’s plenty of ’57-’58 Cadillac glass available online.
Look at the size of that steering wheel; it’s like a Hula Hoop with spokes! This luxury Cadillac features the optional “Autronic Eye” automatic headlight dimmer. The pink / black / white color scheme represented the Bee’s Knees of high-style cars… and bathrooms in the 1950s.
If you picture it fully restored, this high-end car door, sporting power controls, two-tone upholstery, and chrome accents, looks similar to luxury car doors today, except perhaps not in pink and black.
Picture the iconic 1957 Chevy and (redesigned) ’58 Chevrolet and you might notice a family resemblance. If the Chevrolet is a tightly-chiseled running back, the Cadillac is sterner-looking, more muscular and intimidating linebacker… in a tuxedo. If you merely got this baby running and safe, I can’t think of a better Rockabilly wedding car. How would you finish this one?
Is there something special that I don’t see? It’s a non-running 4 door that has been sitting for decades and leaked so bad the floors have rotted out. There aren’t clear pictures of the door jams and rockers, but the glimpses you get suggest they too have rust issues. It’s a parts car, even decent turn key survivors 2 doors seem to struggle beyond the mid-20’s.

…maybe if they included the car that is pictured last in the ad…a 2 door black caddy….it might be worth it…agreed, Steve R….parts car material…
My Dad bought a ’58 Sedan deVille new in ’58. When he got it home, he realized he needed to build an extension onto the garage to make those massive fins fit!
Too expensive to be a parts car & too far gone to restore, even if it was the more desirable two door hardtop.
This is totally off subject but if I were to spot a great find and would like to see it posted here what’s the address I send it to ?
Hello Levi. Excellent question – you or anyone may submit reader tips at this page: https://barnfinds.com/tips/ We can’t guarantee they will become postings, but many do. Thanks!
I do like the ’58 Cadillacs, as I was born in that year, but make mine a ’58 Fleetwood Sixty Special. Love those stainless panels on the lower quarters!
This was such a beautiful car when new,and it is
definitely worth a nice driver quality resto, depending
how bad rust is.Too bad these aren’t worth more.!
