As was typical of many muscle cars, this Superbee has had a pretty rough life. Reportedly it was driven only 61,000 miles between 1970 and 1988 and look at it. Oh well, most muscle cars weren’t bought as grocery getters or for taking the kids to soccer practice. They were made to drive and drive hard. I’m just glad it escaped the crusher and survives in restorable condition. Located in Floral Park, NY, this 1970 Dodge Coronet Superbee is listed here on eBay for a starting bid of $13,000. The engine currently in the car is not the original.
Decals in the quarter windows scream: I’m a drag car! Evidently, someone planned to do more drag racing in the future. In the trunk are these new, never-installed speed parts from Summit Racing: racing heads, racing cam, timing chain, lifters, high-performance water pump, gasket set, and more. There are no pictures of the interior. It is said to be disassembled. Some new interior parts will be included in the sale: carpet, seat covers, and package shelf.
No serious body damage is evident but, it’s impossible to determine the condition using only the pictures in the ad. The dull, gray primer doesn’t help any. There are no close-up pictures of the undercarriage or lower extremities, but I would expect the car to have at least some rust through somewhere. I’ll say this much, I’m encouraged by the lack of surface rust visible in the engine bay. The color of this car is one thing it’s got going for it. It’s Hemi orange, paint code EV2, arguably the most iconic muscle car color ever.
The original high-performance 383 is gone. It was replaced in the 1980’s with this 1972 400 cu. in. engine. It has a mild high-performance cam and new Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and 650 cfm carburetor. The last time the engine ran was in 1995 so some recommissioning work will be required. The transmission is the original, matching numbers 727 torqueflite automatic. Fortunately, the Ramcharger air intake parts are there. Reproductions are available, but I’ve heard they’re not exact duplicates of the original. How about it Mopar fans? Anyone looking for a “B” body project car?
I think this may be a rare case of the primer making it look worse than it is, rather than covering up.
I’d bet there is a ton of rust. A car from Long Island that was on the road for nearly 30 the lack of any reference as to the condition of the body or the undercarriage is not a positive sign, after all, they did go into enough detail to mention it still has the original keys. Granted, the seller may not know any better, which would help explain why there is no mention of whether the car has buckets or bench seats. The stickers on the window are generic street oriented brands, that would have included the box when you purchased a part they don’t indicate a racing history. The cold air induction is a nice feature.
Ultimately the car stands of falls on the amount of rust present and the and extent of previous repairs.
These are among my favorite Mopar muscle cars, I hope it’s salvageable and goes to a good home. I’d just be wary of it at this price.

Its only metal it can be fixed ! If the price stays low its a good investment and when done can be a great car . 18 years of service isnt long and if you factor in its time with original engine out of it ,who knows but id buy it for sure .
It appears this was someone’s streetrod in the 80’s that was on it’s way to becoming a restomod, but got put on the backburner wayyyy too long. The good news is it appears to have been stored indoors since it went into project mode. The engine bay was probably resprayed when that 400 was put in. Hence the overspray on the washer fluid tank. It looks like they tried to pretty up the engine compartment with the braided hoses and whatnot back in the day. Being a northeast car I’d be wary of rust, but it also seems like it’s been sheltered from the past 30 years of it. This very well could be a gem of a project! Too bad it’s not a 4spd

Barn/salvage yard find ’70 Super Bee. That amazing front end! Holy Grail in my book! But then I have a unforgettable memory of my first ’70 Bee in a salvage yard when I was a kid.

Reminds me of a 68 or 69 Super Bee I came across about 12 or 13 years ago.It belonged to a friends neighbor and was sitting out in a pasture near Lampasas Tx. He was asking $3k, a lot of money for a broke apprentice electrician.Supposedly still had the original 383 and a 4 spd. I happened to have my dog with me when I went to check it out. I got a bad feeling when he ran up to the car and went ape s*&t before I did. (My buddy said “Damn, even your dog freaks out over old muscle cars!” I opened the hood and and there were a couple of racoons living under there. The wiring was GONE. I was trying to figure out how to come up with the $2k I wanted to offer him, but he sold it before I got the chance.
Seller is using the wrong props. He should try g-strings or thongs!
I saved this one a few years ago. V-code six pack car with the matching drivetrain and trans and AG hood in barn. Went to Italy to a famous Italian Mopar collector. Always wondered how it looked when he finished it. I love these cars.

The market is funny. I have an 88 C4 with 10,000 original miles in perfect, yes perfect condition and it’s worth less than this Mopar in the shape it’s in?.
