At first glance this might look like one of the Le Mans winning Porsche 936s, but as you begin to look closer you will notice that the proportions are all off. The seat is just too big for the body, the wheels look tiny, and the headlights seem massive. Don’t worry it isn’t your eyes or your computer screen, this is one of a handful of half sized 936 replicas built for Porsche to celebrate their 1981 victory at Le Mans. The first one was actually built for Ferry Porsche to celebrate his birthday, but he loved it so much he decided they needed to have more built to send out to dealerships. This one was discovered in a warehouse still in its original unopened crate. The seller is a Porsche collector and decided to leave it in the crate, so it has never been driven. They are thinning their herd and have decided to let this oddball go. You can now find it here on eBay with an incredible starting price of $30k! Half sized car with full sized Porsche price?
The asking price might seem steep, but given how rare and odd this little kart is, I’m sure another Porsche fanatic would love to have it! There can’t be many of these left, remember they were built to be a toy so I’m sure the few that made it into the hands of children were driven hard and left to the elements. For a toy, they were surprisingly well built with incredible attention given to the details. It has fully functional suspension, high/low beam headlights, turn signals, a 3-speed transmission, and a 32 mph top speed! Now that I think about it, it probably wasn’t children that abused these, but grown-up wanting to live out their dreams of being a race car driver at Le Mans. As much as I would love to jump in this replica and pretend I’m a superhero race car driver, I don’t think I could bring myself to drive it. Not only is it expensive, but it hasn’t ever been driven and should end up in a museum where it can be appreciated from a far. If this were yours, would you jump in it and live out your race car dreams?
Starting price of $30K? Is he on crack? Its a toy not the real thing.
A recent one sold for $22,000

i wonder where the reserve is on this. i think the seller is just testing the waters with the Ebay listing. if i had a used one i would hotrod the motor and take it autocrossing. great find.
It really doesn’t surprise me that these things still exist, but the fact that one comes up that has never been out of the crate. Oh yeah, that is a surprise,
As someone who loves to collect OEM accessories and rare pieces, I would be all over this if I had the expendable income.
