Preserve or Drive? 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The 1977 to 1990 Chevrolet Caprice had a good 14-year run. But by 1991, it was time for an update. The jelly bean look had come on strong in the time being, and Caprice joined the look for 1991. Many critics describe this body style as an upside down bathtub. The 1991 and 1992 were also criticized for their nearly skirted rear wheel openings, so in 1993 the rear wheel opening was cut out further. This car, while looking totally different from the 1990 Caprice, still retained the same chassis. Here is a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 4 door sedan for sale here on eBay in Joppa, Maryland.

Even though the rear still retained a triple unit light, it just didn’t say Chevrolet like they had since 1960. By 1994, Ford was slightly outselling the Caprice with its early nineties restyling of the Ford Crown Victoria. No dings, dents are found anywhere on the car’s gold finish paint.

This Caprice Classic includes electronic speedometer with full gauges among its features. The power seat controls are where I think they should be located, on the driver’s door armrest. This is so much more convenient than trying to reach down and find the controls on the side of the seat. The AM/FM stereo with cassette tape player works well along with the power antenna.

The driver’s seat bottom is showing some wear but doesn’t have any tears. The steering wheel color is wearing off as well. Other than that the interior looks to be in good condition. Those split bench front seats with center armrest look so soft and comfortable.

The engine is the 4.3 liter V-8 with 90,200 miles. The car has been superbly maintained and is described as a garage kept Sunday driver. The transmission shifts smoothly, the suspension is in great shape, and there are no body rattles. The tires are nearly new and it has the correct for the time white walls. The included Carfax shows that it is a two owner vehicle. This would be a good car if you want something a little out of the ordinary for a daily driver while still providing safety features like airbags and good fuel economy. Or preserve its pristine condition and drive it sparingly.

” a garage kept Sunday driver.” With over 90,000 miles that’s a lot of driving on Sunday. I always thought these cars were butt ugly, the Crown Vics were a better looker. Personally, I wouldn’t be caught dead in this whale but I will say is a clean one.

Swap LS into it and surprise those who point at it laughing something about “grandpa car”. Perfect sleeper.

I always liked these, especially STW. And especially Buick Roadmaster STW with LT1….Sedan Buick is not as good looking as Caprice though, IMO.

WHY IS THIS POSTED ON AN ENTHUSIAST/CLASSIC/COLLECTOR CAR FORUM? This is a boring (but durable) car from a boring (but durable) era. There is nothing special about it and there are a ton of them left out there. It isn’t low mileage, or special in any way. Preserve it? Why? Pay no more than 2k for it, cause that’s all it will EVER be worth and hand it to your teenager; secure in the knowledge that whatever she hits will bounce off of her and she’ll be fine.

Not yet a classic, but a decade from now it will be… somewhat the point of many cars we see here, future classics among current classics. I personally don’t see many of these on the road, and the few I see are beat up ex-police cars; point being, in a decade examples like this are all that’s left to represent these cars.

My brother has a twin to this car. Same color, same engine, in about the same condition. Only bariance is his has the aluminum lace wheels. He bought it for $500 from the original owner a year ago. His grandson hit something in the road, crackes the radiator but kept driving it and burned up the engine. The only reason he bought the car was he had Nother 4.3 v8 from a 9c1 that he pulled for a 5.7 lt1 years ago. His 17 daughter drives it now. Its the same color combo as the sherrif dept cars (they had caprice then crown vic, now tahoes) so people still think its a cop car even though it has the aluminum lace wheels. After the 9c1 he had a 96 impala ss. That is the one he shoulda kept

I’m convinced GM sacrificed styling & made this car & the sister division cars so they could ALSO sell it to more people – taller – like NBA players, etc. – for more profit.
This generation is the start of the END of hidden wipers & the start of putting ugly plastic pieces on the front of the front door windows where there should be GLASS! What the hell are they doing there??!! Looks like even later ones like that black one above have even uglier side mirrors(probably plastic) no longer properly attached to the door SKIN.
Of course the 2 door was gone too with this gen – imagine what THAT would look like. Certainly not like the caddy below, tho that too could use a lower roof
& looks like they LEFT OFF the wipers instead of incorporating functional hidden ones like those starting on some ’67 or ’68 production gm cars. Some progress, huh?
How ’bout skirted FRONT wheels too!! tho it does make these look more futuristic IMO …

The 4.3 kills this one for me it’s a shame it isn’t a 5.7. The bid amount amazes me on a 90k mile car . The civilian models had a plush ride , but I prefer a 9C1 . I’ve bought and sold over 100 ,94-96, 9C1 Caprices in the past , many on EBay . I’ve had 20 or so Impala SS’s . The LT1 , 9C1 was the best police platform GM ever produced , many departments in my area rebuilt them a couple times so they didn’t have to replace them with Crown Vics .The Aussie . 9C1 ate cams and lifters and were a pain to get parts for . B4C Camaro’s were a blast but not a true police unit . I still have a small town chiefs 95 unmarked 9C1 with 45k miles , its a keeper . If I wanted a Caprice I would wait . JMO.

Bought my 9C1 new, privately-owned for the entire 301,000 it has on the clock! Flew to Arlington to help build it! Was @ the rail yard to see it off-loaded & the dealer’s as it driven off the hauler!

These have grown on me. My friend had one when we were in our early twenties. I thought it was a really boring car, I could see myself driving one as a daily now. Of course it would help if it were an Impala SS..

These things were oddly capable of making whatever tire it was they originally came with look about three inches wide. Never did quite figure out what it was…

Solid daily driver. Great as cabs here in New York city. Don’t knock it this is the MCI D series of cars. Keep it properly maintained and it would run forever.

Wonderful driving cars, if equipped with the F41 suspension and the LT1 engine. My 95 9C1 Caprice ( with special order leather interior) is done up similar to an Impala SS but with 3.70 gears and a mild chip. I used it as a daily driver for several years, but recently retired it for a 2012 Caprice PPV 9C1. I now have a new favorite car

I remember when this generation Chevy Caprice debuted. I found it more attractive than its predecessor, the 1977-90 Caprice/Caprice Classic/Impala. I also fid it more attractive than the Holden based 2006- Caprice. While I appreciate something designed and built in Australia for the USA market, I don’t find it as attractive to look at as the 1990-96 generation. I hope this car goes to a good owner. :)

Ugly? Yup… comfortable, safe & reliable? You betcha! I ran my 92 for 241k miles before I sold it. This car had a cruising range of over 400 miles per tank and pulled 27 m.p.g. with a 5.7 V8! I made a trip from Chicago to St. Paul non stop. (I really needed a p stop by then) If function surpasses form in your automobile needs, this would be a great car to own!

I absolutely love this car. The second car I bought was a 94 caprice and also my 4th. I don’t know what it is about this year but I love it. You trying to sell?

Unlike the prev gen, IMO this gen has just too much glass(especially for the side windows) – & no more hidden wipers, & no 2 door available!
I would only be interested in this variant! –>

which i saw in 1 or more sci fi movies.

“Preserve or Drive?” I would imagine that would depend on whether it can be driven under its own power. If it can be driven, and everything works, then by all means I’d drive it.
