Project 1972 Stageway Airporter

When we featured a Stageway Airporter last Wednesday, we figured we wouldn’t see another one anytime soon. That was until we came across this 1972 Stageway Pontiac Airporter here on eBay. We then quickly noticed that the seller offering this project is the same seller that was offering the other one. As it turns out, they have several of these elongated Pontiac people haulers.

Someone started restoring this wagon, but didn’t get very far. They stripped most of the interior out and all the parts are piled up on two wooden flats. The exterior has been primed, but sadly there is overspray on the dash and much of the interior. These big wagons can easily haul 15 passengers and with a 325 hp V8, they shouldn’t have too much trouble getting up to cruising speed.

The seller also has this 1971 Stageway Airporter, which is in very nice condition and can also be found on eBay, with an asking price of $19,000. They have obviously been using these big wagons as Limos, but we can’t help but wonder how they acquired three of them.

Heh, those tiny spots of rust here and there turned me off right away….not even for FREE or FREE shipping. Would take way too much money with scant chance of any return.

Same seller of another “one of a kind” car magically found. Can’t wait to see what the next “only one” looks like.

I think it would make an awesome motorhome conversion. A pop top or maybe just chop the bach off and add an RV box..

or you could light it with a match and let it burn to the ground.
The possibilities are endless, but seriously, a rare vehicle needs to be kept stock………..

Stageway has a long history of stretching cars, suburbans and more. Chevy cars were used too as well as an occasional Olds. Most were sedans, not wagons. This looks like a nice car.

The one in the top picture is not a ’72. Safety bumpers came out in ’73, and that’s a big ass front safety bumper. It’s a ’73. If you’re selling a car, you should at least know what year it is.

And NO Pontiac motor in ’72 or ’73 had 325 horsepower, with the possible exception of the SD, which for some reason I’m guessing isn’t powering this wagon.

My high school debate team spent a lot of time traveling all over New Mexico in one of these. We had 67 & 64 Pontiacs.

The auction ended without a single bid. I guess the $5k starting and $9.5k BIN were a little high…

Just two more seats in it and I could get all my kids in it.
