Really Big Deal: 1937 Cadillac

Anyone out there need a really big old car? This might be your baby, a 1937 Cadillac four door sedan for sale on here on craigslist, and located outside Houston, Texas.

It seems right that this big car is located in the big state of Texas, which is famous for the saying “everything’s bigger in Texas.”

Restoring this car will also be a big job, but worth the effort, in my opinion. According to the seller, this Cadillac has been sitting since the ’70s, “needs restoration” (typical CL understatement) and he says the car was running when it was parked in a garage. And the Caddy is claimed to be complete as well, and while no detail photos are provided, it does seem to be relatively all there.

This looks like a Series 75 car (as illustrated below in restored condition), but maybe one of our Cadillac experts will be able to confirm if this is a 75 (3227 built) or the shorter wheelbase Model 70 (1001 built).

Restored cars like this are selling for very high prices. They are big, beautiful classics, powered by brilliantly engineered V8 engines, and because the Depression was still on when they were built, and many of them were lost to scrap drives during World War II, these cars are relatively rare now.

If this stately old Cadillac is truly complete as claimed, and if it is also fairly rust free, the asking price of $5,500 actually seems like a decent price, despite the amount of work and cost required to restore it to the condition it deserves to be in. What a great car for weddings and other big occasions. This car is way out of my league, but I can’t help dreaming about how cool it would be able to drive this art deco beauty on a sunny day, looking out over that beautiful long hood to the endless road ahead.

That license plate is clearly on the wrong make of car.

Replacing the glass alone would bust my budget!

Here is a pic of a 40 cpe I spotted in Jeanette pa. It is a guys parts car. Very cool cars. Just not something I would drive. I’m a hot rod kind of guy and couldn’t cut one of these up.

The hood on this car and front fender looks longer than the restored car plus it has a vent on the side of the hood, if you eyeball the distance from spare to the headlight it looks a foot longer

Are we sure it is a 1937? It looks more like a 1936 to me.
