Project cars are always a gamble, but when it comes to a desirable chassis like Datsun’s S30 Z, it often represents the easiest entryway for those with budget constraints to secure one. Though it is in very rough shape, this 1974 Datsun 260Z is available here on eBay in Snohomish, Washington with a clean title and no reserve.
The seller of this Z provides a very honest account of the car and everything going on with it. The body of the sports car is in rough shape, with the front end being involved in a collision at some point and the vehicle’s original blue color being painted over. Despite the damage, this Datsun still rolls straight and without issue.
When it comes to rust, the worst is on the floorboards of the 260Z, especially by the seats. However, these models have a tendency for succumbing to rust, and it’s likely there will be plenty of it to repair here.
The interior has definitely seen better days, with various items either damaged or missing. However, the seller believes the seats received recovering at some point, and they do appear to be one of the better attributes of this cabin.
Under the hood, you’ll find the original L26E 6-cylinder engine, which pairs to a manual transmission to drive the rear wheels. Unfortunately, the engine does not turn over.
The 5-digit odometer reads 81,445, but the seller claims the true mileage is unknown.
Though it’s clear this Datsun has seen better days, it certainly could make a fun project for someone willing to dive in and fix its various problems. What would you do with this roughed up example of a Z-car?
I would pass.
Must have darn good front brakes. That ‘ol bumper flew right off!
