Running Out Of Time: 1953 Dodge B4B

1953 Dodge B4B Truck

I was always taught that honesty is always the right answer, so when I read a listing that the seller is just honest about the condition of their car, it’s a breath of fresh air! While the seller of this Dodge B4B 5-window truck doesn’t offer a lot of information in their listing, I would say they are definitely being honest about its condition. Apparently they have realized that they won’t get this ambitious project finished before they lose their driver’s license, so they are offering it here on eBay for $850 in Holly Springs, North Carolina.

The seller states that he has had a number of people ask about rust and his response is that it is an ambitious project that has rust issues. I like that, he doesn’t try to play it off as a small task that anyone can do at home on a weekend, but a big project. It always bugs me when seller try to undersell their car’s issues. I understand we all want to get the most for our cars that we can, but I would be willing to pay more for a car I know needs problems than one that I can see has problems but the seller claims will be an easy fix, purely on principle.

Rust really is this trucks biggest issue, although I’m sure it has plenty of other issues and will have even more once you dig into it. With an asking of $850 though, you could at least get your money back out of it or at worst take a minimal loss. This seller has had it since 2009 and states that the engine was free back then, but doesn’t know if it does now. It looks complete and you might even be able to get it running without having to fully rebuild it, well at least one can hope!

Restoring this truck is going to be a massive undertaking, clearly too large for the seller. You might be able to preserve it from further deterioration and make it a weekend cruiser without having to spend too much money. What do you think? Is it worth taking on or is it past saving? Also, do you think the seller’s asking price is on target or is it still a bit high for the condition?

I’ve seen a lot worse than that for a lot more money. It looks like the worst rust is being cover by what looks like plywood panals and that is the cab floor. Price is fair I hope someone takes it on.

While it’s not OE, that push bar on the front bumper seems as though its damn near worth the admission price…

I fully agree! I missed out on one a Pilot House a couple years ago with one much the same.

The price is fair, but a thorough look underneath is needed. Body panel rust is one thing, bad frame rust is something altogether more serious. This is a not seen very often neat old truck that could use a big 6 or a small V8.

Way cooler than the ubiquitous Chevy truck of the same era!

This one has a lot of promise at this price. Makes me sick it is not closer to where I live. I would buy it in a heart beat.
