Still Shiney: 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air

1950 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe

What a beautiful classic! I’m amazed how brightly the paint is still shining under all that dust and dirt. It doesn’t seem like a 66 year old classic could still look this good. I can only assume that it is an older restoration or possibly a more recent restoration that was parked immediately after finishing. Whatever the story is, I really like the looks of this Coupe and I think it would be a fun project to have in the garage! The seller claims it runs, but needs brake work to be driven. Find it here on eBay in Irvington, Alabama with bidding just over $2,400. So would you like to have this Chevy?

Coupe? The pictures are not the best but this looks like a 2 door sedan to me. I like these 49~52 Chevys. I do like the coupes better than to 2 door sedans because My dad had a ’50 when I was about 10. I spent lots of imaginary time driving all over the U.S. in it.

The ebay ad calls it a Bel Air, which it is not as all early Bel Airs were two door hardtop body style. It is also called a 150 and a 210 series but that didn’t occur until 1953. The earlier units were called 1500s and 2100s. It is also called a coupe in the description which again is incorrect as this is clearly a sedan.

Jeff, that may have been the only choices available on ebay. But, it is a 2 door sedan and the fender says it is “DeLuxe”

As time goes by I’m getting to like the old jellybean Chevys more. It took me a while to get used to all the curves but they’re starting to grow on me, especially the ’49-’50 models. And I like the old sixes. Like JW says, this one looks more like a 2-door sedan than a coupe. Either way I like the bulbous old relics.

I am surprised how shiney the paint is. Why didn’t the seller hose it off first.

Older lacquer paints had a depth of color that could be polished extremely well. But polish it too much and the paint would rub off…

There is over-spray on the trunk rubber gasket. The paint has been re-done in my opinion. But the masking and removal of trim was meticulous to say the least. The color does not “look” like a stock offering for the model year. But it does look good.

No one has mentioned the repro seats and the poor chrome.

I owned both a 2 door deluxe, just like the one listed( only baby blue) and a 2 door coupé when I was in high school. Wish I had both of them.
