This 1968 Dodge Charger is the first year for the short-lived second generation of the Dodge Charger. The car is located in Smithfield, Virginia. The Charger is in great condition after sitting in climate-controlled storage for the past 16 years. The car is listed for sale here on eBay and has been bid to $41,100 with six days remaining in the auction. Of the three years that this model was produced by Dodge, everyone has a favorite year. Many think that the 1968 model was the cleanest look.
The black interior looks to be in excellent condition with the exception that the dash has two cracks that have been poorly repaired. The car is equipped with a 727 automatic transmission that is mounted in the console between the two bucket seats. Other options include air conditioning and power steering. The seller discloses that the tachometer and gas gauge are not working. The interior is leather and an aftermarket CD player was installed.
The seller states that the car is an R/T clone and it is not clear if this is the original 440 cubic inch V8 engine or if it was replaced at some point. As you probably know, the R/T option was introduced in 1968 by Dodge as a high-performance package. During the build of the engine, the cylinders were enlarged and a hotter cam was installed. The 440 cubic inch V8 engine in this car produces 390 horsepower based on a dyno run by the seller.
Other enhancements include electronic ignition and the front suspension was upgraded to 1970 R/T components and disc brakes. The car is equipped with a 3.23 rear end to connect all that power to the ground. The eBay ad includes several good pictures and angles of the car including pictures of the undercarriage and exhaust system. The car has obviously been well cared for and loved over its lifetime. The bidding is strong and the reserve has been met so this car should find a new home soon.
Wow, beautiful! You rarely see this era Charger in white.
They look great in white. If I were in the market for a Charger this would be the one. Very handsome car.
Since this is a clone it can’t be matching numbers since 440’s were only available in factory assembled R/T’s. The engine code in the VIN is H, that shows the car originally came with a 383.
Nice looking car, it will and should attract strong interest from bidders. Good luck to the seller.

I don’t get it six days left on the auction 41.000 on a RT CLONE you got to be absolutely NUTS.
For a clean, running big block AC Charger in the most desirable year design $41k isn’t obnoxious by any means.
This type has been caused by Barrett Jackson and Dana Mecum. Also consider all vehicles today are over priced ugly plastic crap that the average wrench like myself can’t fix or aren’t willing to spend money on special tools to fix them. I work at a Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer. The special tools required to fix these things is insane. At $115 an hour, it adds up. Still the 68 Charger is the best styled car EVER.
Ther other Bullitt car…
$40K for a clone with an auto trans is more than nuts BUT this car is gorgeous.
I had a 69 dart swinger,340 four speed. With a 456 rear ending and some card improvements I could beat this gorgeous charger in a quarter mile by two car lengths. Fun days in the mopar muscle cars.
But I bet it would never bring the selling price of a Charger. That’s just the way it works.
In 1969 Dodge offered a “SE” Trim level package for the Dodge Charger which included LEATHER SEAT INSERTS in the front seats only. So I believe since this is a 1968 model the seat material is vinyl and not Leather. Also, looking at the engine picture it appears that the air conditioning compressor has been replaced but not with an RV2 Style compressor that Dodge used in the 1968 model year run.

In 1972 I was gonna buy a 1968 Charger. It had a black vinlyn top and dark green bottom. It sold on Saturday . When I went to the bank on Monday–didn,t know it had already been sold. It had a automatic with a 318. The only thing I hated about it was the gas cap. I would have put it behind the license plate. Anyways–its gone. I bought a 1966 Fairlane with the 390 ,4 speed. Still have it . Alot of smiles and memorys it has. I,m glad I didn,t get the Charger. I didn,t have to borrow money for the Ford and the 4 speed was more my style.
The cylinders were enlarged?? LOL Who writes this stuff?
Forget the Hemi. The 440 6 Pak is the way to go.
Traded my 63 Impala for a 68 Charger in1969. Pd. $1800 to boot, was a fun car, but bought another 63 Impala for cruising today. Could not justify the $$$$ for a Charger.
