Success Story: 1958 Chevrolet Impala

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We recently auctioned this 1958 Chevrolet Impala, but unfortunately, it didn’t reach the seller’s reserve. However, shortly after the auction ended, reader Darrell V reached out to say that he was interested in the car and wanted to make a serious offer, but was a little nervous since it was located in Canada. It made perfect sense to me, so as I brainstormed what we could do to help, I decided to check our database of BF Inspectors to see if we had someone in the same town as the car. It turned out we did! After sending a few emails, we were able to arrange an inspection for Darrell. A huge thanks to the seller for facilitating the inspection and to BF Reader Donny K for inspecting it for us!

Getting another set of eyes on a classic sure can make a huge difference in knowing what you’re buying. After receiving the photos and inspection report back from Donny, Darrell knew this was the Impala for him. Importing a classic from Canada isn’t a monumental task, but it is definitely more challenging than shipping something within the States. Thankfully, Darrell was able to find a shipping agent that could handle the whole process for him.

I don’t want to make this success story too much about BF Inspections, seeing as it’s really about Darrell getting the car of his dreams, but the inspection was the key that made it all happen. Seeing how well it worked out for him, we are going to see about making it a feature on all our listings! I saw firsthand how well it worked, but also some major hurdles that we need to clear. The biggest of which is making sure we have inspectors in every area. So, if you’d love to become a BF Inspector to help your fellow readers, check out cool classic cars, and make a little extra money, be sure to sign up!

I want to wish Darrell the best of luck with his Impala! That Tri-power V8 should make it quite the fun machine. I also want to thank him and the seller, Allan, for letting us be a small part of finding this great classic a new home! Honestly, I’m a bit jealous of Donny for getting to enjoy it in person.

Excellent networking Josh. Donny went hands on, knew what to look for and as a result Darrell got a great car because your BF team were instrumental in bringing all that together.
    Job Well Done.

I truly enjoy hearing about things working out for folks. This is a beautiful ’58 too. It’s good you were able to use your “connections” to help everyone out Josh. It’s nice to see that there are still people in this hectic, busy, oftentimes fast paced world, stop for a minute and help people out. Congrats on your purchase Darrell!!!

Terry the “Toad” Fields ( Charles M. Smith) drove it and was actually Steves ( Ron Howard) car he let Toad use to impress his girlfriend Debbie, while he drove his parents Edsel, I think. Ever been there?
I had a ’58 DelRay 4 door, about as opposite end of the option sheet, but it was still a ’58 Chevy, a beautiful design, and such a different car from the ’57. Fascinating, Captain.

Prettiest of all the 50’s Chevies IMHO. Too bad only one year, giving way to the garish ’59. My folks bought a Sierra Gold ’58 convertible, beautiful car, but poor build quality. Only kept it 2 t years.

That’s awesome. I like reading stories like this where everything just sorta “comes together.” The sometimes overlooked part of this hobby that I really enjoy is all of the great people I’ve met that will go out of their way to help a fellow enthusiast.

I never knew that BF kept an inspectors list to help readers / potential buyers look over vehicles. That’s pretty cool. Another reason why I appreciate Barn Finds and view the site multiple times daily. I’m going to sign up for the list.

A friend has a black hardtop 348, 4-speed with positraction without the continental kit. Glad this doesn’t have it either. Great looking Impala.
