Summer Project: 1970 Dodge Charger R/T

1970 Dodge Charger RT

If you happen to have a Dodge Charger parked in your barn or garage, this seems to be the summer to sell them! More than a few have crossed this site in the past few days. Adding to those ones is this 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, which is pretty much a body and frame, with a Buy-It-Now price of $28,000 with the ability to make an offer. It is located in Poughkeepsie, New York, no mileage is listed, but there is a VIN and a clear title. You can find it here on eBay.

Given the lack of an engine, there really isn’t much to say about the engine bay. The few things mentioned in the listing though are that the car has a 83/4 – 489 rear case. The firewall retains most of the major components and wiring, but you will proabaly want to go through and replace everything here. They also note that it is a hood pin car. There are photos of the underside, which seems to be ok. Beyond that, this car is a canvas that is ever so ready to be completed in any custom way you desire. Hellcat swap anyone?

Some slightly useless mentions in the listing are regarding the interior. They say that the car has a power moon roof. It does have a moon roof, but it doesn’t look like it will be moving anytime soon. The interior color is claimed to be a rare burnt orange, but is missing the front bucket seats. There is a host of other missing parts, like the door panels, that will need to be replaced as well.

However, the exterior certainly makes up for any interior work that needs to be done. While it is not painted and doesn’t look to be in perfect condition, it seems solid. That is not always something that can be said about many barn find Mopar project cars. If you have missed your chance on the last few Chargers that have come up for sale, maybe this is your chance to pick one up?

28K? I watched a lot better ones then this crushed back in the good old days. Wish I had kept a neighborhood eye sore these past 40 years.

Definitely something in the water in Poughkeepsie. 28 large, he lists the options but without a mill and tranny its all for naught. Not the worst one I have seen but its beat to the point where the primer isn’t hiding much. Good inspection needed here. Would be great for a wild ride, like maybe a newer (so called ) Hemi? Or an older hemi? Anyhoo- Good luck to the new owner~

Wow! $28K for a roller, ugly 1970 Charger. Big and heavy car so it will need more than a small block for this one. Then there is the primered body. Primer can hide alot so inspection would be necessary. Besides that, it only needs everything. But then again…$28K?!? What a deal. Market price correct at $28k? Craziness. Don’t like orange that much anyway.
    Not for me. I’m out.

Poncho said it, “it needs everything”. Once you get past the motor and transmission then all the other stuff starts to add up. Grommets, brackets, fittings, weatherstripping, seals, lenses, hard lines, hoses, and on and on! I have a ’70 Charger 500 and I know from experience that the small stuff keeps you reaching for your wallet and shaking your head.

All it needs is somebody with a wallet full of money, and a head full of rocks.

IT only worth what some one is willing to pay for it . Its sad that when a 70 roadrunner 383 4 speed car needing Both rear frame rails ,trunk floor , 2 quarters ,complete floor , motor , trans ,and interior goes for 10 large .my friend thought it was a deal luckily he does his own body and paint work .He just finished a 1968 runner did ok on that one but he did pay 800 bucks for a used trunk lid !!!!!!! Thank god for A M D putting a smackin on guys selling NOS MOPAR quarter panels for 2000 sheckels each .Nothing wrong with making a FAIR profit . But cmon GET REAL .I recently obtained a 1966 coronet for 1200 bucks overall nice shape some rust of course but I do my own work Im making the lower quarters my self bought aftermarket patch panels they weren’t even close to decent the amount of work needed to make them fit ie body lines looking like they were formed with a 2 by 4 and a shovel led me to send em back this car WILL be painted black and will be super nice . I recently put half panels on a 1975 nova that were a joke car was in primer when I finished it and done well all it needed was wet sanded the owner took it to highly recommended PRO body shop for paint charged him 4500 bucks and took 3 and a half weeks had him pick it up at night outside in the rain He took it home dried it off and was heartbroken he took it back to the BODYSHOP supreme they had it for a month this time and most likely will have to be sprayed AGAIN I could have had that nova sanded painted cleared buffed in like 3 days in my little 2 car garage But the owner got the impression that a guy in a little shop cant do NICE work Kinda feel bad for him Like I said before you guys especialy you younger guys learn to do this stuff your self you”ll know whats under your paint the bondo magicians are out there giving GOOD shops a bad name. One supposedly PRO “bodyman ” who recently started his own SHOP told me recently about the virtutes of self etching primer applying it over fairly rusted metal on fairly high dollar restorations. Hate to think of his other “SHORT CUTS” He wont be around long ………..The come backs are going to eat him alive DESERVEDLY

This is the one I would love to have. Very well optioned. I could see doing a complete rotisserie restoration, leather interior, alcantera headliner, a 392, modern suspension and steering. Of course, I’m looking through some else’s bank account. This would be a dream car for me.

This car has a factory sunroof, a rare and costly option when new. A moonroof is glass and debuted in 1973 on the Continental Mark IV (thanks to ASC). I believe the first Chrysler Corp models offered with glass moonroofs were the J-body Cordoba, Mirada (80 & 81 only) and Imperial (81 only).
