The Barn Finds Trend Keeps Growing!

Hot Rod Cover

Look at what I just picked up at the new stand. Barn finds seem to be showing up everywhere! They are regularly featured in books, magazines, and even TV programs. These once forgotten cars are now creating an automotive genre all their own. We don’t claim to have started this movement, but I think it’s safe to say that we have spurred it along. Admittedly, sometimes it can be frustrating that the big publications don’t give us much coverage, but I’m sure we still benefit from their “barn find” stories indirectly. Just the other day I was reading an article by the editor of Hot Rod Magazine. He discussed how they discovered that when they stuck a dirty old car on the cover, they ending up selling a whole heck of a lot more magazines than normal. Let’s just hope this whole thing doesn’t rise and fall like some other automotive trends have done (think lowriders and minitrucks). Either way we are going to continue to work hard to bring you the best discoveries we can dig up. We can’t do it without your help though, so please keep sending in your stories and suggestions. Any ideas of how we can become a bigger part of the movement? Thanks guys!

Ok, yes vans came and went quickly too. I’m fairly confident that the Barn Finds trend will have a longer lifespan than vans though…

More original content with better resolution photos and slightly longer form writing. Less reposting of junk found on ebay. Unless the mission for barnfinds.com is to be an aggregate of project car classifieds. In that case proceed as you are.

~ I’d like to see another cross-promotion with Tom Cotter if he would cooperate. The episodes that were published here with Tom’s commentary were [and still are] good reading. The project cars keep us interested day after day, also. Other ideas would be great to hear.

try contacting hot rod magazine and the people who wrote the barn find stories. see if they will do a story in their magazine on the BF site. if they will not try shopping the idea to other magazines. hemmings runs stories/links to other sites on their blog page.

interviews with your local tv stations might get picked up nationally. you could try your local newspaper to see if they would run one story, from the site, in the sunday paper every week. that could get picked up nationally also.

What’s that about imitation the sincerest form of flattery. Not to worry, as far as I’m concerned, you guys are the best. There are literally so many CL sites, and ebay stuff, I could never find this stuff on my own. I think word of mouth( or screen) is your best bet yet. I’ve turned many people on to this site, and it’s a valuable service for someone looking to get into the hobby, (or expand their collection) and their last name isn’t Rockefeller ( or Folger’s)

I am in downsize mode and clearing out a lot of my old reference materials i simply do not need anymore, some of which is dated anyway. Who really needs 40 years of old magazines? However i have a few keepers in there. Stuff i still think is relevant or is a great time capsule. One of which is some of Hot Rod magazines brief foray into Import car/tuner cars as well as when they tried to add motorcycle content during the upswell of the Harley craze. They couldnt do either topic any justice and it was pathetic then as it is now to try. But it was entertaining to watch. Also interesting to see the growing hipster fascination with the late 60s and the 1970s especially. Groovy vans are super popular. Period choppers along with dressing the part are VERY much the new scene. Check out Chopper cult, the ONE show, BilletProof shows are a blast, see their website and they travel the country. Google pictures from the recent Born Free show. Cue up your favorite Doobie brothers album and relive the past.

Not liking the latest update with just the pictures to click to get the story, much preferred to have a bit of the story with the picture as it was easier to decide which stories I wanted to read! Seems kinda click baiting to me!

Are you talking about the weekly email updates Mark? That’s the only place we have removed the text and it was done because there were just too many finds in an email (close to 70). Please let me know if this is what you were referring to and how we could make it better. Thanks!
