The Whiskey Runner: 1937 Chevrolet Rat Rod 4X4

Do you want to stand out at a car show? This completed build is a 1937 Chevy Pickup designed around a prohibition theme and called the Whiskey Run. It is for sale here on eBay for a buy it now price of $24,500. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, it is a 1937 body mounted on top of a 1998 Chevy 4WD pickup frame.

The patina’d body looks just like you would expect out of a bootlegger from the countryside. It has a number of neat details including rear taillights made from mason jars. The battery is located in the Dr. Pepper cooler in the bed of the truck. The whiskey barrel is removable and is an authentic Jim Beam barrel saved from a warehouse fire.

The passenger side running board has a bear trap on it, too. The truck is powered by a Vortec 350 V8 with a 4L60E automatic transmission. The brakes, cooling system, and fuel delivery are modern and new. The giant tires are Super Swamper 44’s and the seller states that the vehicle is street legal and runs great.

The interior has a number of unique features including a lantern as the inside light and wood-framed gauges. The burlap, cowhide, and chain add a nice rustic look. A lot of attention to detail and thought has been put into this machine. The exhaust travels through bull horn stacks and the headlights are from a 1930 Cadillac.

This build is complete and ready to roll.  If you are looking for a finished 4×4 rat rod with a few bullet holes, this might be well worth looking into. I am not sure you could recreate this ride for the asking price.

The Rule of Redneck states that a person’s IQ will decrease in direct proportion to the ride height increase of his pickup truck over stock, an additional 50 points are deducted for swamp tires on the highway. I think the 24k price tag definitively proves the theory.

So the builder is stupid because you don’t like his taste?
I build cars and trucks all the time. It’s really hard work. I have nothing but respect for someone who has the work ethic to get one on the road even if I do not care for his vision.

I like rat rods too and this is pretty cool. I could do without the whiskey barrel, though, nasty stuff. May as well drink paint thinner. Problem is, like a tribute car, not everyone is going to share your vision. For most, rat rods are fun to look at, but nobody really wants them. They are too much an expression of the builder, and someone that likes these, would build their own for a quarter of the sale price. Nice try, though.

I agree and you said it very well Howard. I do like the distressed look of some of these builds but they tend to get too “gimmicky” if you will. With the bear traps on the running boards etc..you see similar ideas in other cars. No disrespect to the builders efforts here but “less is always more” in my eyes.

Bunch of junk cobbled together…..I might be interested in that 38 deluxe or 39 standard FORD grille though…..although for about $24420 less though!…..

That just makes me want to cry! The builder has a fantastic IQ for creativeness but it ends there. It is NOT street legal in all 50 states, note the bumper height and no mud flaps for starters. It’s good for off-road only, and that’s where it belongs. Better yet, take this flag-waving “patriot” anti-christ and bury it before I tell you how I really feel. So easy to profile this builder.

Long ago I had a blue patina 36 ford 1/2ton pickup with an empty beer can epoxie to the right front fender behind the stock head lite.
