Treasure Or A Mess? 1969 Dodge Polara Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

It’s spring at last and almost convertible weather. Here’s a red convertible listed on craigslist that looks promising. It’s said to have only about 40,000 miles, the paint looks decent from here, it’s got the original hubcaps, and there’s not much rust showing. Unfortunately, that’s about all that’s revealed and it’s sitting on the flipper’s trailer. It’s somewhere in Northern Wisconsin and it’s still wearing bias ply tires. If it’s really nice, the $7,000 asking may not be too far off, but let’s take a closer look.

Here’s a peek into the interior. It sure would be nice to see more of it though. The seat doesn’t look to be in bad shape from this angle, as does the door panel. It looks like it could be a 40k mile car, but it’s hard to say without a closer look.

So here you have it, a glimpse at a red convertible on a trailer. The hood is slightly open in this photo, so they could have at least taken a picture of the engine. The bumper looks peeled and rusted. Hopefully, that’s not the case with the rest of the car. It could be a really nice car or it might be a rusty mess. I guess we’ll just have to wonder. If the ad is gone it’s saved here.

    The seller should get what the viewer discerns from these photos; nothing.

    I would imagine a car from there would rust even if it was kept in a ziploc from day one.

    Where do people get these cameras anymore? Took clearer pictures in the 80’s with my cub scout camera. It looks like a Monet painting.

    This could be one of the ultra rare occasions where the car is actually better than the terrible pictures make it appear. It has happened. In any case, this is a horrible advertisement for trying to sell anything, least of all a classic car.

      @Sanity factor.

      Well, your pic is a damn sight better than a lot of what we see here on BF.

      Love the caprice conv .the Buick rally wheels are not correct but I had them on my 72 Pontiac grandville back in the day I got It that way. That caprice have a 454 in it ?

    There are quite a few more photos in the ad than what are shown here and the interior looks very, very good. So does the top, and it looks like one of the original vinyl convertible tops that Chrysler had then, which were rather shiny. I believe the 40,000 mile claim from what I can see. These are very, very rare cars with bullet-proof engines and drive trains. Can’t remember if these came standard with the 318 or the 383, but either engine is a good one. Price doesn’t seem out of line, to me, if the floors are rust-free. 1969 is the first year for those smooth Chrysler product door latches that close with two fingers and make a nearly silent “thunk”. You can probably tell that I like these cars…

    I had a ‘69 sedan with the standard 318 in the mid-80s. Even in geriatric unloved condition – I got it for $40 from a buddy – it had good power and a smooth ride. Fuselage cars are underrated IMO.

    This is a good buy if there aren’t hidden issues. Good cars and great drivers. Our 69 has the 318 and got decent fuel economy. My wife loved it and hated to see it go.

    No major bubbling or rot but since it’s on a trailer it would have allowed under car shots of frame and pans on car. This could of settled down worries on rust quickly !
