Volume Discounts! 1.6 Billion BC Rocks

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Finally, a seller has included a good selection of photos for an online listing. These 1.6 Billion BC, give or take a millennium or two, Rocks are for sale in Mondamin, Iowa for between $1 and $100 each, what a steal! They’re even offering “volume discounts”. This is a no-brainer, folks, do not wait on this one, rocks like this don’t come up for sale too often. The new owner will have to set up the shipping or pick them up in person, which would be a good idea anyway. Lining up an on-site rock inspector to check them out and make sure that there’s no hidden rust or any funny business going on would be tough. Let’s check out these rocks!

Obviously these rocks have been stored outside but the owner isn’t giving us any info on just how long they’ve been exposed to the elements. Speaking of that, these elements are “Excellent for landscapes, fire pits, retaining walls etc.” according to the seller who seems like a stand up guy, at least when he isn’t stooped over from carrying rocks around the yard. They can be used for all sorts of things if a person is creative enough. They’re “very colorful”, according to the seller, which can be seen from the photos. I would want to restore them back to their OEM rock’ness. I hate restomod rocks, they’re so rough and tumble, in my opinion. How would you use these colorful rocks?! (and, Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone!)

No pix of the VIN plate or date code- not interested. Besides, you can’t put a hemi in ’em or a 4X4 chassis under ’em. I’m gonna let this one roll on by.

I believe these to be the last rocks that Fred Flintstone quarried at Mr. Slate’s place before the bottom fell out of the rock business. Nice Find !

Even at $100 a piece they are a better buy than about 1/3 of what we see on here usually.

Looks like the backyard of the new house we bought, Spring 1980. The front yard was ready to landscape and it took lots of work to move all the BC rocks. A guy came with a truck and tractor and never thought to ask if he was a collector.

What’s all this now? Actually, I’ve hauled rocks like this, it was called “rip-rap”. It was the material right after blasting, before it was fed to the crusher. When you loaded it, you had to put down a layer of sand first, or it would put holes in the floor of the dump bed. Mostly for erosion or walls. Now, can we get back to complaining about rusty, low mileage hulks for $30 grand? A pile of rocks,,what next? :)

This is rip rap material to me. I’ve stacked a few rock walls in my day and these are pretty boring looking color wise. Then again you use what you have access to, I’ve seen some decent looking walls made with broken concrete from a parking lot.

It looks to me like they have 350 small rocks, 427 big rocks and I think I saw a 500 Caddy real big rock.
I am guessing that the power to weight ratio is at rock bottom.

I’m a rock collector from way back. I do not feel these rocks would enhance my collection though. Although I do know a few women who are rock collectors but they prefer the really high dollar ones cut all pretty like and chiny. Yeah gonna just have to pass on this pile. Now if they were meteors, then we could talk if I could get them at a bulk price. :-)

To crude for me, the design is positively paleolithic . . . and we don’t take those things for granite anymore, but the execution could have been a bit bolder however it will eventually get you into Pebble Beach . . .

Let’s face it, people. These specimens are excellent examples of the earliest, if not the very first ever produced. And there haven’t been any more manufactured since the first Chapter of Genesis. Unfortunately, you can find them in abundance at the local quarry, and therefore, way over priced, as the shipping alone would put them beyond book value.
